Todd Palin appears to have filed for divorce from former Alaska governor and one-time vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin, his wife of 31 years.

In a document filed Friday in Anchorage Superior Court, Todd Palin, 55, asked to dissolve the marriage, citing an “incompatibility of temperament between the parties such that they find it impossible to live together as husband and wife.”

The divorce filing uses initials rather than full names, but identifies the couple’s marriage date and the birth date of their only child who is a minor, Trig Palin. The filing asks for joint legal custody of the child.

Yes, I remember hearing about that. Really sad. I just wish they all would have shunned the spotlight. Sarah owes us nothing ahead of her family.

Unless Todd and Sarah Palin were resorting to physical violence or emotional cruelty, they have a special needs soon they should have put first.

Yes. I thought when the Palin's bought a house in Arizona, she was going to move there and run for the US Senate. And further enhance her promising political career.

That didn't happen.

not a shocker - children with special needs are a major stressor for marriages. my niece is severely autistic and it created a lot of stress for my brother’s marriage (though they did not break up). my first cousin and his wife split when their child (with asberger’s) went to college.

“And the lack thereof is often the cause of divorce.”

You’re bad.

Check the sentence structure. In it, “I” replace “Todd” in Sarah’s living situation.

LOL. Mute button helped me a lot back then.

Ruined what plans? McCain still lost. Wasn’t even really close.

She appears all those things you said - plus she gives off quite a “I’m in control here” vibe. Todd has always seemed like a real easy going guy

Todd does seem to be an easy going guy, BUT he is also very much a man with a lot of testosterone- evidenced by his lifestyle and choices of recreation. Those type of men are easy going, but never bow under to be controlled by anyone and especially not a woman. They are easy going, and usually very nice, polite, and soft spoken. People mistake them for someone who would roll with anything but not the case. And when they have had enough, they are done.

I have lived all my life with and around rugged, outdoor men that are very much like Todd. They are a different sort of creature, very strong but don't feel the need to flex their muscles or anything else for others.

I really like Sarah Palin, but she is a strong personality and many women get pretty tough to live with as they get older.

Time for a newer model, with all the options, before time runs out.

Try using a bigger font. That will help you get your point across better

Pretty much how I see it. He never seemed comfortable in the public eye, and I don’t see him being more than tolerant of most politicians and people that travel in those circles.

Pretty sure he is happier hunting moose, hanging out with the sled dogs type of guy.

I think he had no issue with Sarah doing what she did; men like Todd don’t feel threatened by strong women. I do think it just wasn’t the life he wanted for himself. I also think as we get older we are less willing to put up with being uncomfortable for others, even our spouse.

I wouldn't assume that it had anything to do with her divorce.

Her family showed some obvious signs of being a bit of a train wreck for quite some time.

I think it's a good idea for Freepers to take off their rose-colored glasses and stop deluding themselves about the character and personal lives of people who we really don't know at all.

I'm in Dayton and still vividly recall the all night thread as Sarah was traveling from Alaska to Dayton - landing first at a small airport just south of town - to be announced as the VP nominee and give her first speech at Wright State University...where I earned my MBA.

It was quite a 24-hours...and the crowd loved her!

“This is a shame, but I’ve assumed for years that many marriages like this are far different in reality than they seem in public.”

Makes me wonder: aren’t they all?

McCain in his decline of a number of months before he died said picking Sarah was his biggest mistake and then he doesn’t invite her to his funeral. That to me said it all about him. As said above in 20/20 hindsight she should have refused his invitation to run with him.
