Walmart is set to end sales of handguns in Alaska and will discontinue the sale of short-barrel rifle and handgun ammunition in stores nationwide, the super chain's president and CEO announced Tuesday afternoon.

What is “short barrel rifle” ammunition? I can shoot .223 in any barrel length from 9” to 22”. News media ignorance of what they are banning, again.

In that case, just end most, if not all of your WalMart shopping and buying. That will hurt them more than you realize.
I always thought, they’ll go after the ammunition rather than the guns. A gun without ammunition is a paper weight.
The announcement said no longer will sell 'handgun ammo', I suppose .223/5.56 will still be available?

Sounds like they will drop 5.56/.223 and pistol ammo. I doubt if they discontinue shotgun ammo. Guess they will keep “old fashioned” medium to large game ammo (that should really endear them to peta /sarc).
Guns are one thing, ammo is something altogether different.
Add that to auto checkout where they still want to see your receipt at the door, they are getting pretty customer unfriendly.

Good. I’d rather my local gun store owner get all those sales and profits Walmart has decided to reject anyway, I know where he stands on the 2nd Amendment.

Ammo used to be the only reason I shopped there. Then I realized I was consistently waiting 15+ minutes for someone to come to sporting goods with a key.
Better to support your local gun shops or dedicated online ammo retailers anyway.
I recommend Aldi as an alternative to Walmart food shopping. They are almost always cheaper on a per item basis.
Obama did do that. He had all kinds of federal agencies buy up rounds in bulk such that they were not available in retail stores. They were buying up .223 and .308 and .22 rounds.
The USPS was one of the purchasers. So barry was using taxpayer money to purchase a lot of ammo so it would not be available to us, the taxpayer.
