The headline is to throw you off the meaning of the story right from the start and confuse you. Like pollsters do with the first question.

Counterprotest does not mean trying to stop the other side’s protest. It just means showing that there are two sides.
We counterprotested the big lefty demonstration in NYC durng the primary campaigns when Trump was speaking at the Hyatt. And were approached by lefties with raised fists who were only dissuaded by the actions of the NYPD.
We were a tiny group and they were many but that wasn’t the important difference: we weren’t trying to stop them, but they were trying to stop us.
