'She Was a Spy From Day One:' Trump Assistant Out After Discussing President's Family with Press

Madeleine Westerhout, President Donald Trump's personal assistant, who has been described as a gatekeeper to the president, resigned on Thursday after leaking to the press earlier this month. Several White House officials had long suspected her of disloyalty to the president. A former staffer for the Republican National Committee and Mitt Romney's 2012 campaign, she had reportedly cried when it became clear Trump had won in 2016.

"She was a spy from day one who sought to use her proximity to the president to curry favor with his detractors," a former White House official told CBS News.

Westerhout's resignation came after Trump learned on Thursday that she had "indiscreetly shared details about his family and the Oval Office operations she was part of during a recent off-the-record dinner with reporters staying at hotels near Bedminster, N.J., during the president's working vacation," The New York Times reported.

Westerhout was immediately considered a "separated employee" and was not allowed to return to the White House on Friday.

According to CBS News, the New Jersey dinner was not the first time Trump's personal assistant had gossiped with reporters present. At a farewell event for former press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders, she bragged about her gatekeeper status.

“”She was a spy from day one who sought to use her proximity to the president to curry favor with his detractors,” a former White House official told CBS News.”

Why on earth was she ever allowed in? Why was she retained? Does anyone ever give Trump a heads-up on what is going on with his personnel?

Trump could walk out on the street and hire people cold and find more loyal help.

I find it a bit odd that it took Trump almost three years to discover, and then fire the witch.

Once again I am baffled by how bad the Admin is apparently at picking its employees. I mean, yeah...Dems are obviously gonna try hard to infiltrate your inner circle but c’mon, its at them point where it seems every other person on your staff wants to backstab you?

I mean there are at least SOME people available who are actual conservatives and can fill positions in the WH somewhere in this country. Right?

The other interesting angle here is that it seems like someone outside the Trump administration — maybe even a mainstream media reporter — outed her to Trump.

There are an awful lot of people who should be ashamed of themselves, in political circles today. Many of them are in the Republican party.

There are no words for how terribly they are hurting this nation today.

Having looked at a photo of her, I don’t think Trump was focused on her resume.

General Washington had a very closed circle of advisors that he shared secrets with.

They became aware of a double agent in their midst.

This double agent did not know he had been discovered.

General Washington wrote a letter regarding troop strength to be sent by courier to an allied army. He chose the double agent to deliver the letter.

General Washington knew the letter would be intercepted and that the enemy would learn its contents. General Washington planned that it would be intercepted by having the double agent deliver it.

The contents of the letter lied about the troop strength. It stated the number of troops were more than three times what they actually were.

The enemy intercepted the letter as planned and upon reading its content, decided that it would be best to wait until Spring of the following year to launch an attack on Washington’s army.

This bought General Washington critical time and allowed the Continental Army to fight another day. Without the time, they would likely have been wiped out,

Sometimes unwitting double agents can be more valuable than gold.
