1Iran Deploys Naval Destroyer Armed With Cruise Missiles to Secure its Ships in Gulf of Aden - / Fars News Agency, Hamed Jafarnejad

11:05 26.08.2019(updated 11:38 26.08.2019) Get short URL2210 The reported move comes just a day after an Iranian Navy commander voiced readiness to escort the oil tanker Adrian Darya (formerly known as the Grace 1), which had been released by the authorities in Gibraltar earlier in August after more than a month-long detention despite US appeals to seize the vessel.

According to Iran's English-language broadcaster Press TV, Iranian authorities have deployed a naval destroyer armed with long-range cruise missiles to the Gulf of Aden to accompany national ships sailing in the region.

The warship, described as "the most advanced destroyer", would reportedly be accompanied by a logistical vessel and a helicopter carrier.

The day before, Iranian Navy Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari stated that the country's military was ready to escort the oil tanker Adrian Darya (formerly known as the Grace 1) after it was released by the authorities in Gibraltar.

Iran’s Grace 1 tanker was arrested by the Gibraltar authorities in early-July for allegedly transporting oil to Syria - a move that violates EU sanctions against Damascus.

After the probe into the matter, the Gibraltar authorities released the tanker despite a last-ditch effort by Washington to hamper the decision by issuing an arrest warrant.

Let’s see. Iran supports the Houthi rebels of Yemen. It has supplied the rebels with SRBMs to fire into Saudia Arabia. Sending a destroyer, a logistics ship, and a helicopter carrier to the Gulf of Aden just south of Yemen puts it athwart of the sea approaches to the Suez Canal and the Persian Gulf. From there, it could interfere with international maritime commerce. With cruise missiles, it could strike at Saudia Arabia, Israel, and US Navy ships operating in the north Arabian Sea. If the task force continues to the Suez Canal and enters the Mediterranean Sea (which is going to draw a lot of attention from both the US and especially Israel, among others), it will be in a position to escort the tanker. However, it could also attempt to strike at Israel in retaliation for the recent counter-drone strikes against IRGC-supported forces in Syria.

All that can be hoped is that the predeployment planning for those Iranian Navy sailors included making out wills because any mistaken actions are likely to result in rapid multiple ship sinkings.

We DO know for sure that Iran is going to take a shot at Israel. Ezekiel 38 says Latter Days/Latter Years. Sounds like Armageddon - I’m not sure that it is but Iran loses.

Loses big.

Interestingly enough, protest comes from some which includes Sheba and Dedan (this is modern-day Saudi Arabia).

So we have (basically) the Sunni (Saudi Arabia) versus the Shia (Iran) in Yemen.

And now this...............

Apparently a group of Iranians seized the Grand Mosque (built by the bin Laden family, IIRC) in 1979. I didn’t notice it back then.

I say all that to say, I expect Iran to continue to be a problem all the way up to and including that day. /Major Captain Obvious (heh)

It will definitely be interesting if the Iranians move this ship up the Suez. Hmmmmm.

This may be an interesting week in these interesting times we live in.

The Gulf is now a target-rich environment.
