For those that REALLY care, shut if off and refuse to do business with any place that has the AC on. That’ll show us. Yeah, show us you’re fidiots. Of course people did survive before AC and they wore a lot more clothes then too.
They have been at it for years. How many lives have been lost to the DDT ban?
I work in a hospital. Hospitals CANNOT function without out AC. Even for an hour.
We are doing our share. We have two separate AC/heating units for our home, including two fans only options. We had extra sky light/vents installed in our kitchen, family room, master br and extra vents installed for our 2700 square foot home, 4+ years ago.
One of our adult children is a real engineer with a couple of engineering degrees and a ton of real world experience. He and his family live in a two story home in the East bay.
He had 2 separate ac/heating units installed in his home with separate controls/thermostats for each floor.
In the winter time the downstairs furnace does 85-95% of the heating. Heat rises.
In the summer time, the upstairs AC unit does most of the cooling. Cooler air sinks.
Their PG&E bill is about half of their neighbor’s with similar square feet of house on one floor and one AC/heating unit.
Our home is basically on one floor. He had us put in full lenght swinging doors between the kitchen and the 2/3’s of the house we basically use for entertaining and for guests.
One AC/heating unit takes care of our main living space 750 square feet with its separate thermostat.
The other unit takes care of the rest of the home when we have guests or visitors.
In spite of several PG&E price increases, our basic bill is less than when we had one unit.
His other advice was to really go big on the R factor on roof insulation when we had a new roof put on and more sky lights that open up in the large part of our home. We did that.
If I lived in much of Europe, I would probably consider air conditioning a luxury, too. Rome is the same latitude as Chicago. Paris is farther north than Seattle. London and Berlin have similar latitudes to Calgary and Saskatoon.
If you travel south from Europe to reach the same latitude as Houston, you will end up in the middle of the Sahara. I would consider air conditioning a necessity in either place.
Well, when I was a kid, we had one air conditioner, a window unit in my parent’s bedroom. The rest of the house, we got along fine with fans.
As I got older, we had AC in every room pretty much, but it is a luxury you can get along without, at least in the northern latitudes.

Silent Springing going on?
Gotta watch out for them critters...
