Trump is expected to visit Denmark Sept. 2-3 as part of a trip to Europe.

Trump said Sunday that he is interested in the idea, but it’s not a priority of his administration.

“Strategically it’s interesting and we’d be interested, but we’ll talk to them a little bit. It’s not No. 1 on the burner, I can tell you that,” the president said.

I don’t know why Trump is talking this, because it’s not going to happen with the present government of Denmark...countries just don’t sell off huge land masses these days. That simple.

But, as I noted yesterday, in about 20 years, they will be transitioning to Islamic rule there, based on their demographics and immigration policies. Just prior to the transition, they may want to off-load Greenland, just to get on good terms with the US, so that they’ll have a place to go before full-blown Sharia sets in. That scenario makes sense to me, but who knows who the US president will be then.

The idea of buying Alaska was called worse than absurd. Actually it is a great idea. Keeping Greenland costs Denmark more than $500 million annually. Let the Danes think about what they would do with a huge windfall of the money saved and the money paid for all that ice.

Germany already bought it when Denmark joined the EUSSR back in 1973.

yeah...well he knows what every one else (who cares) knows...Europe, as we know it, is dying...literally. Once the adherents of Mad Mo take over it’s gone! That and I believe he’s really tweaking these people as he wants them to keep believing he’s stupid!

Has Denmark been paying their dues to NATO?

Maybe Denmark needs to put up soke collateral.

Truman floated the idea first

...Mr. Kudlow noted that President Harry Truman offered to buy Greenland from Denmark for $100 million in 1946.

...The U.S. purchased the Virgin Islands from Denmark in 1917.

How about a trade then?

Let’s see. What could we trade to Denmark for Greenland?

Hmmmmmm.....

What is Denmark famous for?

Danish pastry!

And what goes with Danish?

Coffee!

Let’s trade them some coffee for Greenland!

I don’t know.....,ten or twenty pounds ought to do it.

How many Denmarkers are there anyway?

Can’t be more than a couple hundred.

What the heck, throw in a couple of those big silver coffee pots just for good measure.

Now I want some coffee and Danish.

Denmark has under 6 million population, which puts them around the same size as the Atlanta metro area. The GNP/GDP of the two are also similar.

Another article on the said it costs Denmark around $700 million per year to hold Greenland. That’s a little over $100 per person. For a country the size of the US, the cost would be on the order of $2 per person. Obviously there are some cost advantages that accrue to a larger country.

“Danish PM: Trump’s idea of buying Greenland is ‘absurd’”

Isn’t that always the seller’s first move in the sales process?

Greenland costs Denmark $0.5B per year in subsidies.
G tax revenue (subsidy included) is $1.7B.
G GDP is $2.5B.
10x revenue is a not unreasonable price for a business.
100x GDP seems an upper limit on buying a la sovereignty transfer, and that’s $250B here.
That’s >7% of US federal spending.
D GDP is $320B.
We could pay top dollar for it in cash, at a price Denmark would be insane to pass up to be rid of a financial sinkhole.

Greenland can be thought of as realestate. Trump said Greenland is an econimic burden on Denmark.

Greenland is said to cost Denmark $700 million a year. That’s a big liability for such a small nation. The possibility exists Denmark might want to be relieved of this liability.

There might be Danes who look at the money and say hmmm..... let’s take the money

Trump can then snap up Greenland. It’s what developers do

“Thankfully, the time where you buy and sell other countries and populations is over."

Hardly. If you're not supporting yourself, Greenland. You're for sale.

It is absurd up until the day before an agreement is struck to encourage Greenland to abdicate from Denmark and request status as a territory in the US. In exchange, of coarse, for 100 billion US dollars paid to Denmark.
