‘Burn a rebel flag, get a free chocolate’: NC shop owner denounces Confederate symbols

HILLSBOROUGH, N.C. (WNCN) - An Orange County chocolate shop owner is an unlikely voice in what’s turning out to be a high stakes game of free speech – and he is showing no signs of backing down.

Matthew Shepherd says almost every Saturday a group gathers outside his chocolate shop in downtown Hillsborough waving Confederate flags.

“They were calling me names, they’re calling everybody names,” Shepherd said. “They’re instigating, they’re poking, they’re blocking the sidewalk.”

Hillsborough is right outside Chapel Hill... it is about as liberal as Asheville is now. I believe in Hillsborough is illegal to throw away your armpit and leg hair if your a woman, and you shave it. I believe you are required Pie town ordinance to compost it.

The people who do this are the biggest freakin hypocrites because they're all fanatical democrap supporters. The Confederate flag is a symbol of the south today, southern pride that's all. The Confederate states had MANY flags not just that. The democrap party on the other hand though is a symbol of slavery, the KKK, Jim Crow laws and LYING. Any of these dirtbags protesting that? Any of them protesting why this party that has caused so much misery, torture and death throughout the history of this country is STILL to his day in 2019 allowed to even exist? This party that as late as 2010 STILL had a KKK recruiter serving in the Senate? A guy Hillary called her mentor? A guy they built a statue to in the nations capital and force a black man to clean? I hope no one gets the idea to take a 40-ft by 60-ft piece of fabric that resembles a Confederate flag, soak it in gasoline, and set it alight inside his store just to get the free chocolate.

This guy promoting flag burning needs to start, instead, promoting flag safety.
