Iran had claimed that they had limited their stock of enriched uranium to 300 kilograms (about 600 pounds) as required by the JCPOA.
Iran has enriched 24 tons of uranium since signing the 2015 JCPOA nuclear deal, said the head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran, Ali Akbar Salehi, on Sunday, according to Radio Farda.

This was explicitly built into the deal. At the 10 year expiration date, Iran would get all their enriched uranium back, and have enough for dozens of weapons. So their development was not slowed at all, just put in the bank, for delivery right after Hillary was out of office...
What is curious about this entire story...the Germans are so focused on allowing the Iran nuke-energy story to continue its theme, but in Germany...every bit of effort is being made to dissolve their nuke plants and take them off-line. Added to this...they are trying to force neighboring countries (Netherlands, Belgium, France, etc) to also take down their nuke plants.

U-235 is about 0.7% of naturally occurring uranium. If they processed 24,000 kg of uranium down to 300 kg of enriched uranium then that means the 300 kg is enriched to about 57% U-235. Not sure if that is good enough for effective fission bombs but if the U-235 is further refined to say, 85%, you might be able to build 8 or 9 simple bombs with that stockpile.
Obama & State made sure this would happen.
Of course they did it using German & Italian centrifuges and other parts the West banned in trade with Iran; wonder why Germany won’t patrol the Gulf, then look no further to their deal with the Devil by importing 3M muslims and their under the table trade with rogue regimes.

Iran has dealt with France, Italy, Germany and Russia (NK & Syria) for years in illegal trade. Iran will never join the world economy with its current leadership and like Merkel in Germany sneak around sanctions to enrich the political leadership’s iron grip on their nations as the internal suffering increases.
Trump should sanction Germany, move the 17K US troops to Poland and the pacific - Taiwan would be nice spot for brigade....

Not a nuclear physicist by profession. I have ‘heard’ that you need 80-85% purity to make a fission bomb work. However, recent data from testing suggest that the 1980’s Chernobyl accident first explosion was nuclear because it gave off Xenon gas. Xenon is what the sniffers are looking for to determine clandestine testing. While it wasn’t a yuge boom, it still and nuclear detonation with fuel rods that should be below 20%.
They said 24 tons, or 48000lbs. That is 21,772kgs. At 0.7%, that 152kg of U-235 yield (if they get 100%) or about 50% of 300kg, or 50% yield. If the collection is only 50% then they have like 300kg of 20-25% U-235. That is fuel rod stuff.
This doesn’t prove the Iranians violated the agreement. Then again, why does Iran want nuclear power.....to save the world from CO2 global warming? As they say on ESPN...Come on man.

It also depends on how enriched (concentrated) the uranium is.
Likely the stockpile in the bank is low enriched (they report 3.67% of U-235) reactor grade, but they need Highly Enriched Uranium (at least 20%) to make any kind of atomic bomb. So there is probably a 5 to 1, or more likely a 20 to 1 ratio between that stockpile, and the usable amount of weapons grade uranium (typically 85% or better) that they could produce with it. There would also be some delay in processing it.
The very first uranium bomb, Little Boy, dropped on Hiroshima, used 64 kilograms of 80% enriched uranium.
However it is likely that whatever is officially admitted to is only the tip of the iceberg - that more, and more highly enriched stocks continue to be developed in secret.
Your numbers depend on “how enriched.” They’re correct if its 100% enriched, otherwise they’d be considerably lower.
