Constitutional Carry Works in Arizona: Armed 19-Year-Old Shoots, Kills, Carjacker

On 17 July, at bout 1:30 a.m. in South Phoenix, Arizona, there was an attempted carjacking. The suspects may have thought the selected victim would be an easy target, because he was a teenager. It did not turn out that way. In Arizona, there is respect for the Second Amendment. Eighteen, Nineteen, and Twenty-year-old citizens are not prohibited from carrying guns or from carrying them in vehicles. The perpetrators in this attempted crime made a poor choice in the victim selection process. For the knife-man, it was a life ending one. From 12news.com:

Around 1:30 a.m., police were called to the Circle K convenience store at Baseline Road and 24th Street.

Investigators say a 19-year-old man was sitting in his car at a gas pump with the driver's side door open when a woman reportedly came up to him to cause a distraction.

He then noticed the suspect coming toward him from the back of the car holding a knife.

According to the police, the suspect demanded the 19-year-old's car.

At that point, the victim got out his handgun and fired shots at the carjacker. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The target was more alert and better armed than the suspects suspected. He reminded me of the time a slim woman, openly carrying, shot and killed a man who pressed a gun to her neck a few miles away, at about one in the morning of August first, 2016.

Teenagers have the right of self defense, as do other citizens.

The teen did the right thing. But why do I get the feeling if this happened in Tampa, Florida he would be in jail now, charged with a homicide? Period. Hope I'm wrong, but I don't think so.

Stand your ground has been very narrowly defined in a lot of jurisdictions. I don't see an Obama appointee on the bench in Florida ruling it's okay to kill a knife-wielder in order to keep your vehicle from being stolen.

There's so much bull crap out there now about how defending yourself with a firearm and wounding or killing an assailant can ruin your life and get you jammed up in the justice system. This is nuts.

It's really troublesome. No doubt a lot of the false info out there is from organizations which are really left-wing mouthpieces masquerading as gun rights activists just trying to intimidate citizens into not defending themselves.

One of these groups is PrepareForAfter.com which has a pamphlet available online called: "Six Things You Didn't Know Would Happen After The Police Arrive".

It's not a fun read.

Good. This is what the left wants to take away from us. They want to take guns from non-violent citizens.

Until kommiefornians have their nefarious way with the state. It's already gone from decidedly red to a hint of purple.

... a man who pressed a gun to her neck a few miles away,

Wow! The gun at her neck must be a very long gun.

Since the good guys far outnumber the bad guys, we’re better off if everyone carries at all times.

The Left knows this. They are anti-gun because they know they are the bad guys who will be outnumbered.

Obama had no authority to appoint Florida state judges. We also got rid of the lib majority on the Supreme Court. What appears to weaken stand your ground laws here and elsewhere is attempts by lawbreakers to misuse that defense to cover up a misdeed. Recently in my county a guy blasted an unarmed burglar in his home. The press was upset and asked the sheriff why no charges. His comment was a burglar entering a dwelling at night here should know most all the residents are armed so to do that they are at risk of getting shot. No charges were ever brought. I cannot speak for south Florida but up here don’t do the crime unless you want to do the eternal time.

Florida?

Move to Texas. Not the situation here. A knife threat is sufficient to justify this here.

Your car is your castle - if you’re sitting in it or if there are others in it - i.e. baby, grandma, Mom, girlfriend etc.
If you are sitting at a light or waiting behind the wheel per se, it’s the same as somebody attempting to take you from your living room - defend yourself.

If it’s parked and you are witness to the vehicle being stolen from your driveway....that’s what the police & insurance are for. Florida takes a dim view killing someone over property.

Thanks. I get your point on Circuit Court vs. District Court. No Obama appointees in Circuit Court.

However, in Hillsborough County we have a state attorney (otherwise knows as the district attorney) who would be the one prosecuting anyone charged with a self-defense murder.

Though he isn't a judge, he is a Democrat whose campaign for election was supported by a group called Florida For All, Inc. which contributed $70,000 to his campaign. That's not a conservative organization.

In our case he might as well have been an Obama appointee and I'm willing to bet he would be prosecuting that teenager if the shooting had occurred here instead of Texas.

Hillsborough is one of the few Florida counties which in 2016 went for Hillary.

“Move to Texas. Not the situation here. A knife threat is sufficient to justify this here.”

Texas also has the SSS law. If you are attacked on your own property, SSS and don’t bother calling the police and wasting their time.
