America only put a man on the moon with the help of Nazi monsters (TR)

Watching the Moon landing 50 years ago from his comfortable Paris home, Yves Beon could barely contain himself at the spectacle unfolding on TV.
Dozens of white-shirted scientists and engineers at the Apollo Mission Control Center in Houston, Texas, were on their feet, many waving flags, cheering at a triumph that was enhancing American prestige and unleashing an ocean of apple-pie patriotism.
Yet Beon, a hero of the French Resistance, was spitting venom at the screen that night and, had he been alive to see last weeks documentaries repeating the footage of Neil Armstrongs giant leap for mankind, his reaction would have been incandescent.
Amid the jubilation half a century ago, no one bothered to point out that Americas scientists had been given a huge helping hand. Or that the Moon landing was, in fact, the brainchild of German scientists led by Wernher von Braun, Kurt Debus and Arthur Rudolph. Or that all three were Nazi war criminals, guilty of mass murder.

Well, since he may not have been a direct descendant of Robespierre I'm sure that he is as pure as the wind driven snow.

Yeah, well, we defeated the NAZI monsters in WWII with the help of the communist monsters. Then we defeated the communist monsters, in part, because our German rocket scientists were better than their German rocket scientists.

Even worse, some of their American enablers were democrats.

[AND The Entire Russian Space Program Was Run By The Help of Nazi Monsters Too!
OR didn’t You Know That?
Limey Bastards! ]
Actually, they squeezed them dry and sent them back to East Germany. Of course, they may not have been able to squeeze them dry, or Soviet scientists weren’t up to the job. Because the US got to the moon first. It’s wonderful that the Soviets put together an all-Soviet space program. But that could have resulted in them never putting a man on the moon. But the reality is that there was little difference in the treatment of German rocket scientists on both sides of the Iron Curtain in one crucial respect, in no way were German rocket scientists who did work for the Soviets ever prosecuted for their work during the Nazi era.

“Operation Paperclip” brought a LOT of them to the US, under JIOA and CIC auspices.

Hi.
Just out of curiosity, am I supposed to be outraged that we beat the godless communists to the moon?

German rocket scientists acknowledged that they built on Goddard’s work. So GFO.

Never forget that it was white men that didn’t have to go outside to smoke who put a man on the moon.
This is why it couldn’t be done today.

At the strategic level, I agree. I got the impression from his particular foxhole, though, he could’ve had an impact. Instead, his obsession—and it was an obsession—was advancing his knowledge and understanding of rocketry.
