Trump drops executive action on U.S. Census, will seek citizenship survey by other means
R ^ | 7/11/19 UPDATED AN HOUR AGO | Jeff Mason, David Shepardson

Posted on 07/11/2019 1:20:54 PM PDT by conservative98

A government official confirmed that Trump is expected to announce he will drop the legal battle to include the question on the census survey and instead direct the Commerce Department to obtain answers on citizenship through other means, but it was not clear how that would occur or how it would be funded.

The U.S. Census Bureau is part of the Commerce Department. The U.S. Constitution specifically assigns the job of overseeing the census to Congress, limiting the authority of the president over it, which complicates adding the question to the decennial survey via presidential missive.

Trump’s decision not to proceed with an executive order on adding the citizenship question to the census was first reported by ABC News.

There are many in here who, at the first FR report that Trump has done something, not done something, changed his mind, not changed his mind, go completely off the deep end...
How many times does Trump have to do something in a couple of days that shows he made the correct decision does it take????

Be patient...See what comes later.....

I live in a blue infested, illegal alien infested city. I am burning my census form and I will vote.

He can’t just close the crossings. Hundreds of open miles leaks like a sieve. He has to put another 25,000 troops there with orders to use less than lethal force to stop them from stepping on US soil. Tell Mexico that may require stepping into Mexico and then back ASAP.

Rare sanity in this thread. Thanks.

It’s always the same handful of pussies, trolls, and malcontents. They accomplish nothing and they don’t represent a voting bloc to be concerned about.

BTW he had both houses in the republican party then.

*************

Yes I understand. But that meant nothing. The GOP was never behind him. Its a weak and feckless party of liars and appeasers. However, I agree with you that trump should have been way more aggressive on the immigration problem from the get go.

This is a major political setback for him in that a lot of supporters will no longer buy his rhetoric and braggadocio.

You’re in fantasy land on this, unfortunately. The Constitution is quite clear on the role of the census.

Emergency apparently doesn’t mean emergency.

Just like citizenship no longer mean citizenship.

The first problem was he yelled immigration all during the campaign and worked everyone into a fever for the wall.

Yes, and Mexico was going to pay for that wall. Not!

Wonder what the admin would say when a judge asks did this just now become and emergency. you railed about it all during the campaign and you waited 27 months for an emergency declaration?

I’ve begun to hear hard core Trump supporters questioning whether they can vote for him again. People who used to be fixated by his rallies. They can only take so much disappointment.

He will need more minority voters to make up for them.

Some places will get more representation without citizens who can vote.

I think it was using the new team of lawyers submitting new argument which was denied by Judge to switch lawyers.

Good point. And not an unreasonable question for a judge to ask.

Not only that, crying wolf too often causes people to ignore you.

Madam president Harris will certainly include the citizenship question by running another census in 2022.

and the border leaks more and more all the time. Last month we let congolese in and sent them to san antonio without ebola screening. Congolese from Mexico, I presume.
