Four Judges Confirmed This Week

Posted on 06/22/2019 3:14:29 AM PDT by cotton1706

This will be a weekly post.

Count is now 123 judges confirmed.

80 District Court judges

41 Circuit Court judges

2 Supreme Court justices

This week the Senate Judiciary committee sent seven more judges to the floor, including a nominee to the 9th circuit.

At this point in his presidency, Obama had only 19 Circuit judges confirmed and 69 District judges.

Trump has nearly double the number of Circuit judge confirmations as Bush and Clinton as well, at similar points in their presidencies.

However, Trump is well behind both Bush and Clinton in District confirmations. This is due to the fact that ALL of Clinton's District confirmations were by voice (or unanimous) vote and nearly all of Bush's as well - where EVERY Trump nominee requires a cloture vote.

So progress is being made, and the 9th circuit (as indicated by it's Planned Parenthood decision this week), is slowly becoming less insane as the additional five (soon to be six then seven) Trump nominees have taken their seats.

Thanks Cotton for your post. It’s fitting to both cheer the victories and mark the uphill battle to achieve them. There is a set teed up for confirmation next week hopefully next weeks post will also have good news.

In other good news President Trump will have another seat to fill on the 9th Circuit. One of Bush’s judicial nominees has announced his decision to assume senior status when a replacement is nominated, Carlos Bea, born in 1934.

Daniel Aaron Bress has been nominated for retired Alex Kozinski’s seat & Diarmuid F. O’Scannlain’s seat is open and without a nominee.

This new opening won’t change the balance of the court but it is the opportunity to confirm the seat with a conservative Justice into future decades and precludes a future Democratic President from having the opportunity to fill it.

Democratic senators and LGBT advocates have voiced concerns over one of Trump’s most controversial nominees

Democratic senators and LGBT advocates want to stop the confirmation of one of President Donald Trump’s most controversial judicial nominees this week, but the fight underscores just how powerless they are to do so without help from Republicans.

Majority Leader Mitch McConnell scheduled floor votes starting Tuesday afternoon for a slate of appointments including Matthew Kacsmaryk to be a judge for the Northern District of Texas. The Kentucky Republican has used a 53-47 majority and streamlined floor rules to quickly confirm 34 judicial nominees this year.

Looks like we’ll get a couple more Circuit Court judges in the next week or two. Serious Serious progress has been made on the crucial Circuit Courts. We STILL haven’t countered Obama’s 55 but we’ve come a long way toward restoring the Circuit Courts from the Leftists who were in danger of shredding the constitution.
