Alabama Republican Roy Moore has announced he is running for U.S. Senate again in 2020 after failing to win the seat two years ago amid sexual misconduct accusations.

Moore announced his campaign Thursday, seeking an eventual rematch against Democratic Sen. Doug Jones. The announcement upends an election viewed by Republicans as a top priority in 2020 and ignores President Donald Trump's warning that he "cannot win."

Is his running mate 13 years old?

It's OK. Her mother approves.

But you agree the Emancipation Proclamation was justified and you think Lincoln was right to do it, right?

This point has come up before, but perhaps you've missed it. Grabbing slaves as a war effort is perfectly legitimate if it is a "war." Meaning a conflict between nations. If it is a "rebellion" then constitutional law still applies.

That is the legal argument. The moral argument is that slaves should not be slaves, and when one has the opportunity, one frees them.

But i'm no longer convinced Lincoln was motivated by moral sentiments. One does not urge the Corwin amendment be passed, and then claim the moral high ground on freeing slaves because it is the right thing to do.

I think Lincoln's emancipation proclamation was more about winning, and less about doing the right thing.

If Moore wins the GOP nomination then I would expect Trump to disavow him on the campaign trail ... because the media will drape Moore around the neck of every Republican candidate in 2020.

I think this is the motivation for a lot of Republicans to hate on Moore. They are afraid he will be draped around the neck of other candidates like an Albatross. He will be the stereotypical intolerant religious Republican that the left already claims we all are.

Yes, i've long worried about that too, but my thinking is we need to beat the sh*t out of this media system that allows them to pull such crap.

I wish Moore would find something else to do ... because he will he completely ineffective as a U.S. Senator with no allies in Washington.

I don't think he will be ineffective. I think he will support Trump's judicial nominees and be a reliable vote for conservative issues such as immigration, abortion, and so forth.

The danger from him being in the Senate is damaging other Republican candidates in moderate states, but there is no other harm that I can see from him being just another senator.

How exactly does this happen in the U.S. Senate? Is he going to spend all his time railing against Federal judges instead of working as a legislator in the Senate?

The nation is 243 years old, and I have long looked askance at this notion that we must have new laws every year. We really don't need new laws, and in fact we need to get rid of a lot of the old ones.

Working legislator? How about just voting for the Judicial nominees and representing the State of Alabama and what it's people want in the Congress?

I think Will Rogers said something to the effect that the only time your wallet is safe is when congress is out of session.

His ego has over taken him.

Perhaps, but how many people would take the vicious smear against themselves that Moore did, and not want exoneration and/or revenge?

Sorry, I didn't recognize your name as feminine and just assumed you were a male.

When a woman likes you, it's "flirting." When she doesn't, it's "sexual harassment." I think most men are acutely aware of this, but perhaps not most women.

The guy is hated by many Republicans in Al.

And at a guess, I would say these are the upper class elites who regard him as an embarrassing boob because he actually believes in that religious stuff, and believes in picking a fight not only with Federal Judges, but with the National media trend setters too!

Yes, the aristocracy of our society hate men like Moore. They also hate men like Trump, but these are exactly the sort of men we need now to deal with the insanity our governance has become.

What diff does my sex make? Sexual harassment is legally defined.

I’ve been a victim of it. I think when a male boss purposely grabs a female subordinates boobs on the job it is a little more than flirting.

Still pushing that crap about McConnell?

McConnell will go down in history as perhaps the most effective Majority Leader. His work with judicial appointments has been magnificent. Record setting.

There are almost 5 million people in Alabama. I'll bet at least 3 million of them could do what you've described here, and there must be literally thousands among them who would be more credible candidates for the U.S. Senate than this guy with a seriously damaged brand.

Looks like the people of South Carolina don’t agree with you and he was magnificent defending Kavanaugh. I’m sure you had better alternatives but just kept them secret.

What did you think of George Allen? (Virginia) What a loser! We know this is true because he said "Macaca" and the media proved to us that this was racist.

Good thing the party cooperated in throwing out this vile racist.

Secession was an illegal amendment to the constitution and totally violates the idea of a “union.”

All good points. But consider this:

1. For one thing, Congress must pass appropriations bills. That itself is a challenge in a divided government like ours.

2. If we need to get rid of a lot of old laws, then where is the Roy Moore platform to do just that? And who among the current crop of U.S. Senators is he going to enlist to help him?

Graham has been a lot better since McCain died, but a few years ago he was a bastard and needed to go.

A lot of people are noticing Lindsey Graham 2.0. I can't remember how many articles i've read in which people have pointed out that the new Lindsey is a fighting warrior, unlike the old Lindsey who was a backstabbing @$$.

Better Clarabell than any Demon.

Can’t you understand that the Fake News set this up specifically to use the tactic to destroy conservatives?

NO ONE remembers such innocuous crap, decades old vapors.

Union, such as the "United Kingdom" otherwise known as the "Union of the Crowns"? The nation who's flag is the Union Jack?

That Union?

The Declaration of Independence settled that matter with the principle that leaving the Union was a God given right of all people.

It is true that Southerners have more of a sense of honor not to be violated but the rest of your conclusion is absurd.
