We Blamed George W. Bush

Given the volume of commentary describing Donald Trump as a uniquely polarizing figure—and the amount of time Democrats spend attempting to end his presidency—one might think he is among the most partisan Presidents in our history. But that’s not the message in the latest NBC/Wall Street Journal survey.

Not that voters don’t give Mr. Trump a large share of the blame when asked who is responsible for “the partisanship that goes on in Washington.” In the June NBC/WSJ poll, 43% of respondents give the Trump administration “almost all” or “a major part” of the blame. When you consider that another 23% give Team Trump “at least half” the blame, it doesn’t seem to leave all that much room for other politicians. (The polling team doesn’t appear to have asked voters whether they blame themselves.)

In any case, survey respondents seem to hold Mr. Trump responsible for much of Washington’s partisanship. But as with so many other issues related to Mr. Trump, it’s instructive to evaluate him in comparison to other Presidents.

There were large organized protests on his inauguration day, literally before he did anything as President. Tell me again how he caused partisanship.

Trump caused partisanship because he committed the sin of winning.

GWB was a wuss. He’s the sort of person my dad said would have been duct taped to the school flagpole. In winter. Nude.

Trump is the least partisan President in my lifetime. Heck — I don’t think any presidential candidate ever ran a campaign like he did, where he openly opposed several major planks of his own party’s national platform (immigration and trade).

I’ve seen numbers suggesting that 30% (or more) of the people who attend his rallies are DEMOCRATS. It doesn’t get much less partisan than that.

“Let’s harken back to the gold old days..
Where we could call W, Hitler. Blame all the worlds problems on him and he and the republicans would just sit back and take it, or apologize?”

It’s always Democrats that refuse to work with Republicans. When Obama was president he shut them out of meetings completely, saying “We won, you lost”. But Democrats also accuse the other side of things they themselves are guilty of.

If Trump is so partisan, how come at least 3/4 of the GOP establishment is against him or at best luke warm to his policies?

The “partisanship” meme is entirely media manufactured.

Dad also said that he (GWB) will be remembered as saying that saw grass will save the US in the pseudo-fuel shortage. Trump has made us a world exporter.

Fallacy. The Republican Party platform contained a very strong protectionist tariff plank. The gloBULLists, after WWII, removed it. So Trump is a traditional Republican.

Disagree. He was the head of the CIA for a while. Not many wusses make it to that position.

The Democrats attack people going to Trump rally’s. It’s due to Trump being decisive.

Any protests against Hillary was due Trump being decisive.

If you didn’t support Hillary or at least shut up, you were decisive.

Only Democrats can speak. All other talk is hate speech.

The american troops on Omaha beach caused a lot of shooting to go on. It doesn’t mean they were to blame for the war. In fact, we were cheering them on.
