I could imagine any of the theories discussed being valid, the actions make very little sense at a time when Iran is hosting a state visit, but then perhaps the mistake all of us make is to assume any rational basis for actions in that part of the world. 1. Can we say, with 100% certainty, that no other nation, or group, has possesion or ownership of an IRGC Gashti class patrol boat? Don't some other countries own and operate some of our military hardware? Yes. Something to consider.
2. Were the operators of that patrol boat detained and positively identified as being Iranian military? If not, how can we be 100% certain they were Iranian military?
3. Has it been verified beyond a doubt that those mines were recently placed on those tankers, or in the surrounding waters and not remnants from a while ago?
Having our navy assist the civilians from the tankers is fine...but those tankers were not ours so it's not up to us to retaliate militarily against whoever may have been responsible for those explosions on those tankers.
Trump lines up allies to isolate hostile nations. Iran's allies include Russia, who tend to get out of Dodge when the U.S. gets serious about blowing things up.
Every time someone predicts a short war, they are almost always wrong. I am not predicting a short war. Only that Iran has nearly insurmountable problems in fighting a long war.

Actually it’s a person with a name who is calling these shots, but we don’t have that person’s name.
I’d bet if we find that person’s name, we’d find they’re an Obama political selection pursuing a private agenda.

Last we the crew had been taken off. For all we know that tanker is drifting and a hazard to navigation. The other possibility is that it’s been taken under tow.
