It took the state roughly three and a half years to reach the $500 million mark in total state revenue from marijuana sales, and just under two years to double the revenue source. Cannabis sales contribute to the state's general reserve fund, as well as education and health care, including mental health services, and youth drug-prevention programs.

So how much have they lowered their other taxes.
Government has a never ending desire for more money.
I wonder how much Colorado has lost indirectly. I know that Colorado will never be in my vacation plans; the only reason I would go there is if I have a connecting flight at the airport.
And I wonder how the crime rate is doing, as drug addicts who are incapable of work turn to crime to feed their addictions. Not to mention the increase in violent crimes committed by the brain-addled. I wonder how life expectancy is doing in Colorado, given the heavy physical toll of drug addiction.
You cannot have an honest conversation about the state’s “profits” from legalized drug abuse without also looking at the costs of the second, third, fourth, etc., order effects.
CO’s spending over 20% of its state budget on Medicaid, almost $8 bil.
Bet that pot money is already spent.

I’m not into the marijuana legalization debate, but they say they gained a billion in tax revenue because of their legalization.
To get the net gain in revenue one must subtract the tax money spent due to the negative consequences of increased marijuana use.
Also one must subtract the reduction in other tax revenue due to lower business profits due to the stoned and distracted workforce.
It should be rearing its head. I have seen more toxic thc levels in newborn umbilical cord in the last few years, than in a 30 yr career. Very few have just one drug. These babies have been bathed in drug chemicals during critical organ development.
These kids should be in early ed soon.
For 1 billion in revenue, these kids will be subjected to this forever. This is not the same pot from decades ago, so comparing those results with today, wouldn’t be accurate.
For another billion, the state could legalize child sonography. People are doing it anyway, why not get revenue from it. It would stop us from spending taxpayer dollars in criminal enforcement.
It won’t last long. The markup on cannabis is 8X the wholesale price. It won’t take long for people to figure out they don’t need to buy government cannabis at $40 an 1/8th when they can get it for $40 an oz.
So the government is pushing dope.
Exactly. I'd like to see an audit statewide. The collateral costs. Drug related ER costs. Lost productivity from so many being addicted. Broken homes. Abandoned children.

Great! Does that mean the state will subsidize the 16% increase in Auto insurance collision claims and 4.5% across the board premium hikes? Wonder how much that costs overall? Maybe a billion five? Search for the stats on the impact of MJ and insurance and you may be surprised.
How many people were killed/injured by doped up drivers? What doe that cost the economy? Libertine not libertarian.
I live in the Springs, overall crime is not bad. Homelessness, especially in Denver is getting bad, but I chalk that up to Demonrat policies overall. Quite a few states have legalized weed, and more on the way. You will not be able to vacation in the USA soon if you follow your own policy.

Imagine how much revenue would come from taxing illegals.
Dope was going to be sold...either legally or illegally. At least in this case, the government is collecting tax off this. You can go the other way, and let the dealers and pot farms make all the profit.
Or grow it themselves - legally.
Why take the time and effort to grow it when you can get it for $40 an oz?
