The House of Representatives voted Tuesday to hold Bill Barr and Don McGahn in contempt of Congress.
Both President Donald Trumps attorney general and former White House counsel defied subpoenas from the House Judiciary Committee, and congressional Democrats followed through on threats to hold them in contempt. The lower chamber voted in favor of H. Res. 430 by a margin of 229-191 in what was a party line vote. (RELATED: AG Bill Barr Is Not Worried About His Reputation: Everyone Dies)
Trump administration officials have come under fire for their handling of Special Counsel Robert Muellers report, which concluded that there was no evidence that the presidents campaign colluded with the Russian government. Mueller declined to weigh in on the possibility that Trump obstructed justice over the course of his investigation.
Perhaps no figure other than Trump himself has drawn more ire from Democrats than Barr, who released his own summary of Muellers report, weeks before it was released to the public. (RELATED: The Kremlin Breaks Silence On Mueller Report)
Congressional Democrats have accused Barr of misleading the public in his summary, with some Democratic leaders even calling on Barr to resign. Mueller himself said last month that he believes Barr acted in good faith.
The Attorney General preferred to make the entire report public all at once. We appreciate that the Attorney General made the report largely public, Mueller said at the time. I do not question the Attorney Generals good faith in that decision.
Despite Muellers report, Democrats are continuing to aggressively investigate the Trump administration ahead of the 2020 presidential election. Earlier this week, Democrats rolled in Watergate figure John Dean to testify in front of the Judiciary Committee, a move widely panned by Republicans and Trump, who called Dean a loser.
Contempt? As when Hillary Clinton smashed her mobile devices, deleted tens of thousands of emails, bleachbit her server, then mocked inquiry about wiping her server with a damp rag??
“what difference does it make at this time any how (if I lied about Benghazi during an election year)?”
Article sez it was a party line vote. Ds voted for, Rs voted against. Simple. No roll call vote needed.
Amash voted NO. He has said publicly that Trump should be impeached. How does that make sense? Maybe he thinks that Barr is just doing his job. Or maybe this whole contempt thing is legal and political nonsense?
Also Tulsi Gabbard did not vote. Sometimes she seems smarter than her fellow dems.
I doubt Barr is losing any sleep over it.
There's a line?...
Good research D1, thanks
I didn’t have to research it.
One day I happened across and interview of him explaining all this. It really stuck with me.
Thanks for the note. Hope things are good for you.
Looks like your mind is on auto-research
:>)
There is no word for coincidence in the Hebrew language
I hope you and yours are well also
Thanks.
Yes, things are good here.
Interesting that lack of a word for coincidence.
I’m in contempt of Congress, too!
I guess that means that Dumbash voted for the contempt charges...
