SALEM – Oregon is close to becoming the 15th state to signal that it will award its Electoral College votes to the presidential candidate who receives the most votes nationwide.
On a 37-22 party line vote, the Democratic majority in the Oregon House sent Senate Bill 870 to the desk of Democratic Gov. Kate Brown, who has indicated her support.
Instead, said Rep. Allisa Keny-Guyer, D-Portland, the compact would make Oregon more relevant during presidential campaigns. “The Republican presidential candidates write Oregon totally off, and the Democratic candidates take Oregon for granted,” she said. “So we are just relegated to being a spectator state.”

True, in fact “One man one vote” is a direct attack on the Republican government guaranteed in the constitution.

The only positive is this gives conservatives in blue states a reason to go vote. Cali had 2 Dems on ballot for senator, that had to suppress conservative vote.

You can bet they will toss this aside if a Republican wins the popular vote.

Yes, but it also gives Dems an incentive to vote. Moreover, it gives CA Dems an incentive to cheat, which is what this is really about. They can determine how many votes the Dem needs before the polls close, and then supply them.
Maybe now that all these states are dependent upon the vote in CA, the media should stop tracking the election results on election night. It’s really irrelevant until CA votes.
The whole idea is to create confusion. The Democrats never acknowledge a Republican winner. In 2000 it was the DNC fostering the mess in Florida which ended up with their faithful yelling Bush was selected not elected.
The only reason they were quite in 2008 and 2012 was because Big Mike’s husband won.
This attempt to change, call into question the fairness of the Electoral College is about destroying the current POTUS and then manipulating the system so the DEMS never looses power again.
They have completely given up any facade that they respect the Constitution or the rule of law.

Trump lost the irrelevant popular vote by a couple of million votes. Just a coincidence that Hillary won California by about the same margin she won the popular vote.
Pulled the same crap with Bernie on the delegates. Without the super delegates, Hillary wouldn’t have gone over the top on the first ballot.
What I would love to see is Trump winning the popular vote and losing some of these lefty states. Watch the lefties change their tune about who they are giving their electoral votes to.
We have a system set up to elect our President.

The States that vote to by-pass the electoral college shouldn’t even be allowed to have their votes counted at all.

It's scary stuff. It would surely wind up in the Supreme Court, but that's a crapshoot IMHO affected by elections and illnesses as much as by the intent of the Constitution.

newfreep you are right. These arrangements amount to compacts between and among the states, which is constitutionally prohibited.
An analogy is price fixing. Suppose I make a statement that I will keep my price at competitive levels until my rivals all raise their prices to the monopoly level. But as soon as these rivals all raise their prices to monopoly levels I will follow suit.
I am not entering into any formal contract or compact with my competitors to restrain competition, but 100 out of 100 judges would call this naked price fixing and send me off to jail.

I can’t wait for 2020, when Trump wins the popular vote and all these blue states suddenly realize what a foolish thing they are doing.
Maine and Nebraska do it far more intelligently and fairly, reflecting the votes of their constituents by congressional district.
In Alabama it is a republican lock so I never had a motivation to vote. If my vote can help sway Oregon to Trump, I’m all in.
