Oregon set to change the way it awards Electoral College votes [COMPACT]

SALEM – Oregon is close to becoming the 15th state to signal that it will award its Electoral College votes to the presidential candidate who receives the most votes nationwide.

On a 37-22 party line vote, the Democratic majority in the Oregon House sent Senate Bill 870 to the desk of Democratic Gov. Kate Brown, who has indicated her support.

Instead, said Rep. Allisa Keny-Guyer, D-Portland, the compact would make Oregon more relevant during presidential campaigns. “The Republican presidential candidates write Oregon totally off, and the Democratic candidates take Oregon for granted,” she said. “So we are just relegated to being a spectator state.”

Note that there is not one presidential election, but one in each state. 

What is it when 14 states making up 70% of 270 get to maybe 18 states crossing 270?

We will have a minority of states telling the majority of states that they can't have the Electoral College's natural boundaries anymore.

Still a crappy decision, but at the worse it will have no effect on Trump’s election and at best award him Oregon votes. Wow

NONE of these states will honor this compact if a Republican, especially Trump, wins the national popular vote.

This is a "help the Democrats only" compact.

The Oregon vote no longer matters.

Watch New York and California - those two states will determine how Nevada and Oregon end up voting.

And when those states give illegal aliens, convicts in jail and crazy people the right to vote (while banning Trump from the ballot) well..... we’ll have our Socialist Utopia. :)

in that situation, then the party winning those states will win the election anyway, compact or no...thanks to our ridiculous winner take all system...

The point I was going for is that a majority of states want to keep it the way it is, regardless of Electoral College weight.

It's the states that elect the President, not the people. If a minority of states can force the majority of states to use the national popular vote to determine the winner, then a good case can be made that the compact is unconstitutional because it undermines the intent of the Constitution.

By saying "other states" I obviously meant the country at large, not some specific state. And, no, we would NOT support this idea if we thought it worked to our temporary advantage. It violates our constitutional structure. You're either a troll, aren't very bright, or both.

The EC votes are based on each individual state, not the votes of all states.
The state’s elect the president, not the popular vote.

True, one man one vote is a tenet of democracy which is a terrible form of government which the founders did NOT endorse and it is not mentioned in the constitution which guarantees to the states a republican form of government.
