Justice Dept. Keeps Wiretaps Secret in Flynn Case, Rejecting Judge’s Order
The New York Times ^ | 31 May 2019 | Adam Goldman

Federal prosecutors rebuffed a judge’s order to release by Friday highly classified transcripts of discussions that Michael T. Flynn, the president’s former national security adviser, had with the Russian ambassador during the presidential transition.

The transcripts between Mr. Flynn and Sergey I. Kislyak, formerly Russia’s top diplomat in the United States, were expected to show that they talked in December 2016 about sanctions that the Obama administration had just imposed on Russia. Mr. Flynn initially denied those exchanges about sanctions both to Trump administration officials and the F.B.I. in the weeks after the discussions.

The conversations prompted concerns among senior Obama administration officials about whether the Trump transition team was flouting norms about holding off on making policy until after taking office. The phone calls were also at the center of the scandal that eventually prompted Mr. Flynn’s ouster just weeks into President Trump’s term.

The order this month from the judge, Emmet G. Sullivan of the Federal District Court in the District of Columbia, was unusual. The transcripts came from a secret F.B.I. wiretap of Mr. Kislyak, and their release would have provided an extraordinarily rare look at the fruits of the government’s eavesdropping. Agents routinely listen to wiretaps of foreign officials, but they remain among the government’s most closely held secrets.

How is this even possible? I thought Wray was all about transparency and making sure things were on the up and up.

Actually the Obama administration was flouting norms by obstructing the policy of an incoming President instead of helping with the transition.

He’s such a little sh*t. I see him and I see every frat boy from every school in the SEC getting rolled up by the cops for being a drunk dumbass and then crying that his daddy is a lawyer.

Need to give the few normal folks in DC a chance to leave and then start dropping MOABs on the place until it is a parking lot, with all those parasites buried in the rubble.

Right there with you, bud. Their moat of the Beltway and their security needs to be understood as wholly inadequate fixed fortifications.

The more I read about all this and the Flynn transcripts released earlier today, the more it pisses me off. This piecemeal crap needs to stop. The msm and the dems have been calling the POTUS a traitor and a Russian asset for over two years. If they believe this, that supersedes any concerns about sources or methods. That would be the least of our concerns if Russia actually had control of the POTUS, there is nothing that would be more important then exposing that. That tells me the entire executive branch that should be under Trump is not answering to Trump, including barr. So ether the POTUS is a Russian asset, or an un-elected, unethical bureaucracy has complete control of the US government (executive, legislative and judicial). That justifies the release of everything.

It’s more likely the latter. “Six ways from Sunday” comes to mind (Schumer).p

what if the tapes will provide evidence that the Flynn case was an Obama screw job from the get go and this thing immediately goes straight to the WH?

The judge should, and may well actually do, the following:

1. Dismiss the claims against Flynn with prejudice;
2. Hold the DOJ in contempt for refusing to obey his order.

This is GOOD.

Any national security advisor to a president, during his transition into office, is going to be speaking with foreign people... even Russian ambassadors.

Obama had no right to listen in on the incoming Trump administration. Their work and communications should remain private to the Trump presidency.

Of course it went straight to 0bama. That’s why the discovery never really took place or precedence-and why Flynn’s not sentenced. He was a 33 (?) year DIA guy who ended up at the top. He disagreed with ROE that had our guys shoot only after being shot at by the burka’d men and got himself fired by 0bama.

He knows where more bodies are buried than a whole troop.

“The more I read about all this and the Flynn transcripts released earlier today, the more it pisses me off. “

Me too. It seems to me this is like related to the transcript that has been released: John Dowd’s voice message to Robert Kelner.

They weren’t listening in on Flynn. They were listening in on Kislyak — which is routine for the CIA.

Is that a rhetorical question? (You left off the question mark.)

If not, then: Yes. I often read the article, so the answer is yes; all it takes is one doing it once to make it “ever.”

In this case - NYT - I was unable to do so because it requires me to make an account, and I refuse to do so.

However, I often read the entire article.

"....whether the Trump transition team was flouting norms"

Wow, before this, I only knew Trump was violating norms and not respecting customs or our democracy and doing things that are unprecedented.

Now he's outright FLOUTING norms.

I feel, now, that I can no longer exonerate Trump on charges of aggravated iconoclastisism.
