Believing relationships between persons and Christ are ultimately personal things. These carry on validly in churches of many denominational followings. It isn’t what the priest says that matters here; it is in Whom the Christian believes.
That said, gaffes like this will raise many difficult questions of loyalty. The most devout towards Christ in Catholic churches will have to refuse this attempt to use the church to muster a global secular government for a cause for which we have no reasonable proof of need. They may be loyal dissenters within their own denomination.
