Conservatives Shouldn’t Fear Evolutionary Theory
National Review ^ | May 13, 2019 | Razib Khan

It is a crowning achievement of Western civilization and a rejoinder to the modern myths of the Left.

As an evolutionary geneticist and a conservative, I take some interest in critiques of Darwinism. I have come to expect that every few years a new book by Michael Behe, a professor of biochemistry at Lehigh University, will trigger commentary relaying his skepticism of evolutionary theory to the interested public. And this will result in vociferous rejoinders from evolutionary biologists.

But evolutionary biology is nothing for conservatives to fear, because it is one of the crowning achievements of modern Western civilization. It should be viewed not as an acid gnawing at the bones of civilization, but as a jewel. The science built upon the rock of Charles Darwin’s ideas is a reflection of Western modernity’s commitment to truth as a fundamental value. And many Christians well-versed in evolutionary science find it entirely compatible with their religious beliefs.

I would like for an evolutionist to explain how life can come from non-life.

I don’t. Just like I don’t fear the boogeyman. Or unicorns.

Who says that they do?
Perhaps some folks who take religion where it is not designed to go. Many of those same folks also believe the earth is only a few thousand years old.
But then again, for each of them, there exist one million Occasional Cortexes.

Why? If you don’t understand the difference
between origin and evolution, nothing will
satisfy you.

Maybe not, but evolutionists ought to fear God!

Ugh - the left isn’t rejecting evolutionary theory - they’re doing exactly why conservatives said they would do with it when they abandoned God in favor of it.

The left is claiming evolutionary mastery by dictating what will succeed - just as breeders have done since time immemorial. Transgenderism and social restructuring are all part of that plan to forge their perfect utopia. (I think a lot of this lgbtqiaxyz nonsense is to train population control myself)

Regardless - the left will burn itself out on the fires of God’s truth - but not because conservatives adopt a Godless concept as evolution. But because liberals have abandoned rationality, science and facts altogether for the party’s truth - just as communists have done forever.

Would it not be logical to discuss origin before evolution?

Embracing evolutionary theory has forced scientist to adopt really, really old earth models. I attended a debate at the University of Oklahoma where the one of the evolutionary proponents was the head of the geology department at OU.

He stated that geologists can build old earth models or they can work with young earth models. He simply decides to work with old earth models because of his belief in evolution.

Of course, biology is NOT his field. So he, in essence, admitted that his approach to his own scientific discipline was due to something that is not his specialty. Exactly, who has distorted science, here.

Nobody probed him further on this subject. I presume that when he used the term “young earth”, he probably did not mean “a few thousand years”. But he clearly conceded that geological science has driven geologists to accept the “millions and millions of years” viewpoint.

Would it not be logical to discuss origin before evolution?

Isaac Newton's theory of universal gravitation explains how matter interacts with other matter, but has nothing to say about where matter comes from. Should he not have bothered publishing his theory because it's not logical to discuss anything about matter until we first discuss its origin?

My Grand Dad waited 80 years to see some real signs of evolution and didn’t.

I’m up to my 80 and still reporting zero signs.

Evolution was the precursor to no more oil in America and Gorebull Warming.

Of course the science with evolution, like Gorebull warming Science is settled.

For me, it has nothing to due with my belief in capitalism and private property. It has everything to do with my scientific background and that I was taught that: when contradictions exist, examine your premises.

When Darwinists are confronted by a contradiction, they just invent a bigger kludge and/or tell people not making a livelihood by pitching evolution that they just don't have enough background to understand.

Evolutionary theory is a crowning achievement of Western civilization? Wasn’t it also the philosophical foundation of the Third Reich? If we accept evolutionary theory as true, can we argue against the existence of untermenschen among us?

There are too many on both sides who believe science and religion can’t coexist and that they can compliment each other. On our side we have the clowns who believe the Earth is only 6000 years old, on the other they have those who totally reject the existence of God.

And many Christians well-versed in evolutionary science find it entirely compatible with their religious beliefs.

"But from the beginning of the creation, God made them male and female."

Mark 10:6

Is Jesus lying?

Also, if evolution is true, then the story of the Garden of Eden and original sin must be viewed as nothing more than allegory, a view that undermines the significance of Christ's sinless life and his sacrificial death on the cross.

Isaac Newton's theory of universal gravitation explains how matter interacts with other matter, but has nothing to say about where matter comes from.

That is nice but that doesn't answer my question convening life itself. Isn't understanding the first primitive cellar life the most fundamental to evolutionary theory? How did the first plant/animal cells "evolve"? So I think it is a fundamental question.
