Christos Anesti!

I am told by Antiochian Orthodox clergy—including Bishops—that in their “old country” of Syria (BEFORE ISIS took over) it was very common for Muslims to invite Christian neighbors to these Eid Al Fatir feasts and that the Christians reciprocated by invited their Muslim neighbors to Pascha feasts.

I don’t like the implication of dhimmitude on the part of the Governor, but, on the other hand, the Orthodox faith in Syria has remained inviolate. After all, we begin every Orthros and (behind the Iconostasis) every Liturgy with “Glory to God in the highest and on earth peace, goodwill among men”.

By Middle Eastern standards, Syria was a very good place for Christians until the Civil War broke out.
