The high school is in a newer part of 6 county metro Denver. Bordered by C-470 to the north, and Broadway to the east and Lucent to the west. It is a middle class and upper middle class area. Almost every person in that area is white. A few Latinos and very few if any blacks. Police cars that arrived were from Arapahoe County Sherrif and Douglas County Sherrif. I was in the area at the time of the incident and counted 12 Sherrif cars while I was driving west on C-470. I thought it may have been a bank robbery. The early reports were that the 2 bad guys entered a class room and began firing and were immediately detained by one or more 12 graders in the room.

I had heard that reported from the police scanners at the time. It rapidly disappeared into the vapor.
Highlands Ranch was new-ish in 1988. I visited some friends there.
