Christopher Columbus brought measles to the New World. It was a disaster for Native Americans.
San Jose Mercury ^ | May 6, 2019 | Michael S. Rosenwald

In 1492, Columbus sailed the ocean blue, bringing to the New World a bounty of wonder: coffee, horses, turnips, grapes, wine.

But Columbus and his fellow explorers, in addition to importing crops and animals we now take for granted, were also the Typhoid Marys of their time.

The New World before Columbus: no typhoid, no flu, no smallpox, no measles.

The New World after Columbus: epidemics of death.

Also brought the wheel, printed language, metals, agriculture, science, medicine. Would the current native Americans wish to go back to the pre-Columbian stone age living as hunter gatherers.

Or maybe what the Aztecs were doing.

Libs like to paint the so called indigenous people as just sitting around the campfire singing kumbaya.

The Indians (From Asia) would have been exposed to these diseases sooner or later. Before Medicines would have helped. The anti-Columbus crowd is the usual Leftist fools.

That should be a warning to us today concerning allowing folks from other countries into America. Did people coming in get any diseases from the Indians?? Are we saying the Indians had no diseases at all???

The question to me is “why didn’t the Europeans get previously unencountered diseases from the indians? Why was it only one way?”

“Would the current native Americans wish to go back to the pre-Columbian stone age living as hunter gatherers.“

I asked one of them that very question once. He was stunned for a moment and then made the claim that the Native Americans would have caught up in these area if given enough time. So I asked how much time he thought it would take.

Dead silence.

It was pretty funny.

Everybody knows all that. They taught it to us back in grammar schools.

Columbus' voyages also brought syphilis from America to Europe--along with tomatoes, squash, chocolate, etc.

He also brought Jesus Christ to the shore and won many to the Lord. Why else would the liberals hate this Bible-believing soulwinner as much as they do?

What’s the practical difference between noble savages and savage nobles?

Had the Injuns the political unity, ships, arms and spirit to push off, they would have invaded Europe.

But they had non of these, at all.

“Or maybe what the Aztecs were doing.”

The Aztecs were pioneers in heart surgery.

Christopher Columbus had no idea what caused measles. The concept of "germs" and "bacteria" were unknown in those days. He could no more have prevented a disease he knew nothing about than he could have weaponized it (as has been suggested by some revisionist paranoics).

A group with relative immunity was exposed to a group with none. As a result, thousands of the immune-absent group died. The same thing happened to Europeans when traders brought the Plague back from the Far East.

It's what happens with multiculturalism. Kinda like how people in sanctuary cities are now being exposed to typhoid, tuberculosis, and smallpox.

I guess they shouldve had a wall to protect the border. And also a Coast Guard.
