Sanders Thinks The Boston Marathon Bomber Should Be Able To Vote From Prison
The Federalist ^ | April 23, 2019 | Madeline Osburn

In his CNN town hall on Monday night, Senator Bernie Sanders (I–VT) said convicted criminals, including those who committed acts of sexual assault or terrorism like the Boston Marathon bomber, should have the right to vote.

Ignoring the fact that these individuals have violated public trust and, in some cases, taken away their fellow neighbor’s right to vote by murdering them, Sanders argued criminals’ right to vote is inherent to democracy.

“I think the right to vote is inherent to our democracy,” he said. “Yes, even for terrible people, because once you start chipping away, you’re running down a slippery slope.”

“I believe even if they are in jail, they’re paying the price to society, that should not take away their inherent American right to participate in our democracy,” Sanders added.

Sanders’ home state of Vermont is one of two states that allows people vote while they’re in prison.

Ask him how the Constitutional right of free speech (reading writing and associating) can be restricted as well as the murder’s right to own a gun.

Damned Communist.

The right to vote is inherent, Bern, ol’ boy? Well, three American citizens had their civil rights removed by an extremely deadly force. When, pray tell, are they going to get their civil rights back? When they vote Dem?

We are told that Donald Trump has to publicly denounce supposed support from awful neonazis but Sanders is appealing for the vote of a convicted Islsmonazi terrorist mass murderer.

My own feeling: Voting is one of the privileges you lose when you’re in jail. Also, to me, if you don’t pay Federal Income Taxes, you don’t vote in Federal elections. Same for state and local. After all, nothing in the game, why should we listen to you?

It’s been nearly 50 years since felons lost the right to vote. If we’re travelling down the slope of disenfranchising people, it’s not a slippery one.

The saying on this site used to be, "Liberalism is a mental disease".

Somewhat, but "Socialism is a mental disease" would be more true. This guy is f&cking insane.

Sanders is a useful idiot. If Sanders’ dreams of a socialist takeover of America were ever to come true, useful idiots like him would be rewarded by a one way trip to the Gulags (or worse).

First of all, I am not from Vermont.

Second, Tsarnaiev was not a citizen, so he wasn’t voting.

Third, this proposal is stupid on its face.

This guy, was my neighbor

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Henry_Barnett

Anyone care to guess what political party he affiliated with?

Anyone surprised the Dems argue that people who blow up 8 year old kids should have the right to vote, don’t know what the Democrats are all about.

Marathon Bomber was a Bernie-bot?

Since the Marathon Bomber was a fundamental Muslim, and Bernie is a Jew, I doubt if he would be a Bernie -bot. - Tom

Sadly MANY PEOPLE HERE appear into the idea of letting millions, many millions of felons vote.

I say fuck that [sorry, but this is serious shit] - if people ON OUR SIDE want to let ex-cons vote, then how about SOMETHING IN RETURN - like national voter ID, clearing the roles of dead people, ending harvesting, etc. At least make them get us up to Third World standards, rather than the HONOR SYSTEM that we now have.

Why should we, conservatives, simply GIVE AWAY OUR COUNTRY, because it makes up feel better...with NOTHING in return?

Of course the “victim class” party a-hole believes that - the only way they can get votes are from those who are a MIS-fit in society in one way or another!

It doesn't surprise me that post-17th Amendment ratification, constitutionally low-information Sen. Sanders is evidently not aware that that Section 2 of the 14th Amendment discourages the states from allowing criminals to vote imo.
”14th Amendment, Section 2: Representatives shall be apportioned among the several States according to their respective numbers, counting the whole number of persons in each State, excluding Indians not taxed. But when the right to vote at any election for the choice of electors for President and Vice President of the United States, Representatives in Congress, the Executive and Judicial officers of a State, or the members of the Legislature thereof, is denied to any of the male inhabitants of such State, being twenty-one years of age, and citizens of the United States, or in any way abridged, except for participation in rebellion, or other crime [emphases added], the basis of representation therein shall be reduced in the proportion which the number of such male citizens shall bear to the whole number of male citizens twenty-one years of age in such State."

Remember in November 2020!

MAGA!
