New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern announced Thursday all assault weapons and "military-style automatic weapons" would be banned in the wake of last week's mosque shootings in Christchurch that left 50 people dead. Ardern said she expects the new law to be in place by April 11 and buy-back programs will be put in place for banned weapons.

See? This is some Common Sense gun laws. A ban on EVERY SINGLE semiautomatic firearm. That's all.

And look! No need for legislation! Just a proclamation and a drop-dead date of April 11! How DEMOCRATIC can you get?

"I strongly believe that the vast majority of legitimate gun owners in New Zealand will understand that these moves are in the national interest, and will take these changes in their stride," Ardern said.

Take it in stride? I'd sure 'take it in stride'. I often take hot, active, preemptive, shooting civil war in stride.

What are there, somewhere around 4 million Kiwis? I put the over-under on the number that say come and get them at 2. And that might be a little on the high side.

Every totalitarian enjoys surfing a wave of emotion after a Reichstag fire. But when an ice cream truck runs down 99 it just doesn’t generate the same impetus for a ban.

New Zealand is going down a one-way road I’m afraid.

For “public safety”, hmmm. Where have I heard that before? Oh that’s right, the Nazi’s used a registration/confiscation law authorized by the Weimar government for “public safety” to disarm any opponents, real or perceived, on their way to totalitarian rule of Germany. I knew it seemed familiar.

The article says it’s a new law. See? It’s all legal. Think about the children!

Terrorists can kill people quite easily without semi-automatic weapons. Cars, trucks, bombs, and even knives are potential weapons in the wrong hands.

Rather than disarming law abiding citizens who are, in fact, the first line of defense against evil people, how about targeting criminals? For example, this recent mass murderer should be swinging from a rope, in full public display, within a month. I call it fast track for terrorists.

No. This leftist NZ leader would rather disarm honest citizens. We all know the police arrive after the fact in nearly every attack. They are not generally there to stop these murderers until the truck stalls from running over scores of people or the ammunition runs out.

The people supporting gun confiscation want safety and peace. So do we! But let’s be clear, you won’t have peace and security when all of your good men and women are essentially defenseless.

Do they have a pro-gun group down there? If so, what is their position?

I am assuming their guns are not Constitutionally protected?

I would demand that socialism be banned in exchange for the semi-autos.

Years ago on my first outing on a trampoline, I bounced beyond my ability and via an overstretched knee gave myself a world class black eye with headache to match. Never tried that stunt again.

Miz PM Ardern; go put some ice on that thing, take two aspirin and in fresh light of morning beg forgiveness of your fellow citizens.

Just store your semi-automatics and shotguns at your local mosque—everything will be “nice and tidy” then.

Population is at 4.8 million. Having been there last year, I can make a comment or two about this demographic situation and weapons.

The bulk of the population is centered around Auckland (1.7 million), Wellington (207,000) and Christchurch (375,000). Once you get 20 miles away from those ‘hubs’....the rest of the country is fairly rural or less dense populated. In the extreme north of the north isle, it’s all farms and ranches. For the southern half of the south isle, it’s very rural. In some areas, they will warn you that there isn’t any real civilization (gas stations) for twenty miles.

As for the rural nature and animal predators? Well, there are none. No snakes, no coyotas, nothing. You can go out into the most rural area of the south island, and there’s virtually nothing to harm you. Part of this story though, relates to the fact that the original settlers to the region....hunted with a passion, and if there was a threat....they hunted it down.

So you come to crime. I walked over a bit of Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch. With one single area of Auckland that I might describe as a no-go area (mostly because of druggies), it’s probably one of the safest places on the face of the earth. You could stumble around Christchurch at 1AM and other than bumping into a drunk or two, it’s fairly safe.

But I will add this...it’s a two-class society. There is the urbanite/Auckland social liberal class, and the ruralized/conservative class. If you can sell something to the Auckland population, then their vote carries the entire election, and ensures the leadership path for the country. Politicians and journalists may attempt to deny this, but it’s more than obvious if you visit the country for two weeks.

You know that’s the first action the Dimwits would take if we allowed them to stack the Supreme Court.

New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern announced Thursday all assault weapons...

Does the term "all assault weapons" include knives and other pointy objects?

"Do they have a pro-gun group down there?"

I don't know, and I can't really say that I care. After the Brits and the Aussies bent over with barely a squeak I gave up hope for the remnants of the Empire.

I do know that we have enough Oath Keeper and III Percenter types here that they aren't ready to tell us to turn them in yet. It will be at least one more generation, maybe two or three before that happens here.

You can’t defend innocent people by disarming innocent people.

All those democrats that were going to leave the country now have a choice between Canada, Venezuela and now New Zealand.

Now if they would just leave.
