Why did Obama and Clinton economic adviser, 58, take his own life ...

The suicide of Alan Krueger, a former Obama and Clinton adviser who killed himself this weekend, has shocked the worlds of politics and business where he was universally revered. Krueger, 58, had a new book coming out in June and was still a member of faculty at Princeton University in New Jersey. He lived at home with his wife Lisa, with whom he has two children, Benjamin, 28, and Sydney, 26. He is survived by them, his elderly parents and siblings. The family confirmed that he killed himself in a statement that was released by Princeton on Monday but no further details surrounding his death have emerged. Krueger, who served as a top adviser to both Obama and Clinton, recently completed his sixth book, Rockonomics. The book, which will be released in June, 'uses the music industry, from superstar artists to music executives, from managers to promoters, as a way in to explain key principles of economics, and the forces shaping our economic lives.' He was an avid tweeter who used social media almost daily until the end of January when he suddenly stopped. Currency, his publisher, has not commented on his death.

Krueger was best known for his groundbreaking research into minimum wage and the effect it had on labor. He determined that a higher minimum wage did not slow down hiring as conservatives have long argued. After serving as a Labor Department economist under President Bill Clinton, Krueger worked for President Barack Obama as a top Treasury official and then as chairman of the Council of Economic Advisers from 2011 to 2013. In a statement, Obama credited Krueger with helping revive the U.S. economy after the devastating 2008 financial crisis....

Probably his mother was brutally honest with him at last and told him that she was severely disappointed in him. After spending all that money to send him to college and he turned into a worthless Progressive shill and an embarrassment to the family name.

“That is not good for a tenured professor’s reputation.”

And the clue was in the article’s phrase that he was *still* a Professor at Princeton.

Sure seems to be going around.

Involuntarily assisted perhaps?

I would wager my allowance (if I got an allowance.)

Mental illness is a real thing, its dark, its torturous, and it strikes (at least as viewed by the outside world) seemingly without warning. Because of not wanting to be seen as weak, or of being embarassed, people suffer from it for decades quietly.

And sometimes they can’t stand it any more.

That’s the likeliest scenario here.

an increase in gig economy workers between 2005 and 2015. Subsequent research by the Bureau of Labor Statistics reached the opposite conclusion, and the economists backed down.”

There are a series of articles on Medium concerning the reality of these gigs. It’s late, but anyone can search Medium via Google (yeah, sometimes goog is the best search engine).

What I recall from reading a few: they are run by algorithms that incentivize without ever paying off. People are trapped in these sorts of jobs just like gamblers in a casino. The few posts I skimmed made it sound like a special sort of hell.

It’s too late for me to go pull them up, but food delivery is a prime example of this sort of thing. Probably Uber and Lyft, too. Anywhere the worker is tethered to an app to apply for the gig. Sort of like Fiver, IRL.

Maybe he saw the errors of his ways and he was too embarrassed to admit them.

...It makes sense that Krueger was looking for a way to establish a direct link between climate and population shift into the USA.

It's obviously getting too hot for folks to thrive in the African and middle eastern hell-holes, down in Central America and Venezuela, but no one can blame the 'settled science' of 'global warming' - it's the corrupt dictators, the Marxist scumbags and the 'religion of peace' that's driving them out of their homes...and where are they going to go? I've got mice with the same survival instinct. Got myself a couple of cats to deal with them. Krueger may have finally realized what is driving them. It ain't the weather. Must have come as a blow if he was an intelligent man.

Sounds like he was a good guy. Some times the explanation is simply the “dark side”. Sad.

I just assume Arkancide anymore. I don’t even consider the possibility of genuine suicide if there is any link to the Clintons.

Especially the recent news about the minimum wage raise causing people to lose their jobs. I hardly ever eat fast food anymore. It has gotten way too expensive. No longer worth it. This bad news combined with President Trump’s good economy could have been really stressful.

People kill themselves for one reason : They lose hope that the future will get better. Hope is what keeps people going.

You can take someone contemplating suicide, drop them in the deepest forest with a backpack and they will try to walk out. They will try to save their life because they have hope it will get better if they do. They will thrive better in a difficult ordeal than in an easy(boring) life.
It would shock you how many people thru-hike the Appalachian Trail because the alternative was to kill themselves. They speak of it in their trail journals.
