Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Lindsey Graham (R-SC) says firearm confiscation laws portend a way that Democrats and Republicans can come together. CNN reported that Graham has long supported red flag laws, which allow a court to issue firearm confiscation orders for individuals deemed a threat to themselves or others.
House Democrats have already passed legislation during this Congress to criminalize private gun sales and extend the instant background check for firearm purchases. They are now pressing for $50 million in annual funding to bring academia into the gun control push.
The Democrats have also been vocal in their support for gun confiscation laws, and this is where Graham believes the left and right can come together.
He told CNN, I havent really looked at the House package, but this is to me the area where we can come together. Graham has scheduled a March 26 Judiciary Committee hearing on the confiscation orders.
California, Illinois, and Florida all have gun confiscation orders via red flag laws. Californias law did nothing to prevent the November 7, 2018, Borderline Bar & Grill shooting in which 12 innocents were killed. The law in Illinois did not prevent the February 15, 2019, shooting at Henry Pratt Company, where five innocents were killed. And the Florida law did not stop the August 26, 2018, shooting at Jacksonville Landing or the January 23, 2019, shooting at SunTrust Bank in Sebring. A total of eight innocents were killed in the two Florida shootings.
CNBC noted that Grahams willingness to [hold] a hearing on gun control is
a remarkable development in the GOP-dominated Senate.

Gun control? South Carolina? I don’t think he’s helping his political career with this.
Bush League Republicans MUST become extinct before the Republic does.
Bush League Republicans do not change their spots.
The military is already infested with them and transgenders.
The founders were absolutely correct to restrict the President to someone who could not be anything other than an American, someone who was naturally a citizen because they could not be anything else.
The Kenyanesian Usurpation did incalculable damage.
I think that everyone who's responsible and wants guns should have them, but this argument that Hawkins always makes is idiotic.
What it doesn't address is how many events did these laws prevent, and the answer is we don't know.
But who wants to argue that those denied gun purchases because they were nuts wouldn't have done anything wrong had they gotten them?
He will be re-elected.
People just won’t stop voting for Amnesty Senators.
Only an idiot would think democrats and Republicans can come together.
If the dems want bi partisanship, it's real easy
BECOME A REPUBLICAN AND VOTE WITH US.
The bicameral system is forever dead thanks to the likes of pelosi, shumer, clintons, every muzzy in Congress, bernie sanders ... you get the picture.
Democraps and Repunklicans Can Come Together for Gun Confiscation?
Please do come for them together. Maybe Lindsey would like to be the first one through my door. Or Schumer, or Pelosi. If my door was wider, they could come through it abreast.
When it hits the fan; all politicians who voted to take our firearms, our one way to self-protect, should be on The List.
“California, Illinois, and Florida all have gun confiscation orders via red flag laws.”
note they didn’t mention maryland, where a flagged guy was killed by police during a confiscation.
If you don’t already have a list, you’re late to the party.
The rat states are already running with them. The feds will work hard to catch up.
Now you know who you can thank.
“Infringing on your Second is something we can all come together on.”
Government health care programs are the perfect means. Drug databases and questions on gun ownership are the start. Anti-depressants, sedatives, anti-anxiety drugs opioids are red flags. Governments already have these databases.
Then, schools give questionnaires to young soviets on their parent’s gun ownership. Social service visits to follow.
Nosy leftist neighbors with false accusations will round it out.
I keep thinking the same thing. Better they do it while I am still relatively young and skilled, so that hopefully my children wont be forced into the mess that it will become.
Does anyone know if a legal challenge to the so-called “red flag” laws has been mounted?
I am not a lawyer, but it seems to me that red flag laws are unconstitutional in several different ways.
Any FReeper lawyers out there with knowledge re: their constitutionality?
Instant Eric Cant-or...
Prior restraint?
I am strongly opposed to both Red Flag and No Knock warrants based on the accidental deaths they have caused and lack of government responsibility. On a personal basis, I have a relative going through a nasty divorce and custody battle. He is a concealed carry holder and has multiple guns. His wife has already threatened to report him to authorities as being a danger to himself and their children, obviously in an effort to gain leverage in the custody battle. I might add her behavior caused the divorce and she is currently in therapy for non-divorce issues. The potential for abusing the system for personal gain and deaths caused by surprise and forceful entry may, despite good intentions of our lawmakers, outweigh the benefits intended.
Once they have a red-flag law it will be expanded continuously to encompass everything they can think of.
It’s how they roll.
