Trump Abandons ‘America First’ Reforms: ‘We Need’ More Immigration to Grow Business Profits
Breitbart ^ | 3-6-19 | J. Binder

Ahead of the 2020 presidential election, President Trump is abandoning his prior “America First” legal immigration reforms to support increases of legal immigration levels in order to expand profits for businesses and corporations.

For the fourth time in about a month, Trump suggested increasing legal immigration levels. With Apple CEO Tim Cook sitting next to him at the White House on Wednesday, Trump said he not only wanted more legal immigration but that companies needed an expansion of new arrivals to grow their business.

“We’re going to have a lot of people coming into the country. We want a lot of people coming in. And we need it,” Trump said:

Yeah, I was waiting for that, so in the 70's the U.S. Population was 200 million, so the babyboomers roughly account for 50 million.

And since by definition the babyboom was the largest generation in recent history, where do you propose the other 100 million came from ?

President Trump has always said he wants LEGAL immigrants so what’s the problem? The answer is there is no problem; no inconsistency and the writer is just talking to hear himself talk. Go away asshole.

That’s dumb.

I’m suggesting that businesses need to put America first, rather than trying to squeeze another 0.2% profit out of their bottom line by firing American workers and hiring H1-B replacements. Frankly, I make no apologies for that. Nation before “muh capitalism.” I care about the American people, not abstract entities.

Here is what Trump's written immigration policy said about legal immigration during the campaign.

Immigration moderation. Before any new green cards are issued to foreign workers abroad, there will be a pause where employers will have to hire from the domestic pool of unemployed immigrant and native workers. This will help reverse women's plummeting workplace participation rate, grow wages, and allow record immigration levels to subside to more moderate historical averages.

No matter how many ways you and others try to say differently, he is departing from the stances he took on legal immigration during the campaign and since.

Here is the written policy (which isn't easy to find) from the 2016 campaign with several points about cutting back on H1-Bs and requiring that hiring be done from the domestic pool of available employees.

Trump's written immigration policy paper from 2016 campaign

This does not mean anyone here is dropping their support of Trump. but it does mean he will likely lose the votes of some Republicans who will stay if they feel betrayed on the issues most important to them.

President Trump has always said he wants LEGAL immigrants so what’s the problem?

He also supported the Raise Act introduced by Senator Tom Cotton in February of 2017. That act would have reduced legal immigration from 1,000,000 plus to 500,000 and made several other significant changes in legal immmigration.

Raise Act

What he is saying now is a fairly drastic departure from what he ran on and what he supported early in his administration.

Your right. Let everyone who is not happy about this sit it out in 2020. Let Trump lose the states listed. That will teach him.

Only dim witted and shallow thinking so-called “Conservatives” would abandon Trump over this one issue to watch a Bernie, Corey, or Kamala win in 2020.

If Trump is going to blow out legal immigration, kowtow to greedy lying corporatists, and suppress the job market and wages for Americans then what’s the point if his Presidency? Hell, Romney will due if you are satisfied with that.

I'm not letting anyone do anything. It's not up to me, or to you.

It's just a reality that there are voters on the right who will sit out an election if they disagree with a candidate on issues critical to them, or feel an elected official betrayed them on critical campaign promises. Nothing anyone can do about that and snarky remarks on a discussion forum change nothing.

And if the president abandons his America first positions on hiring and immigration/work visa issues, it will cost him some votes. Those decisions are made one voter at a time.

Did Trump just slip a knife into the back of Americans in need of a job?

businesses need to put America first rather than trying to squeeze another 0.2% profit...

Spoken like someone who has never owned a business. America isn't monolithic. It's 350,000,000,000 competing interests. And sometimes those interests are diametrically opposed. When you say "America first", what you really mean is that you want your interests elevated above the interests of others who don't agree with you. Why? Because you feel entitled to the fruits of another person's labor or investment.

Every worker who ever took a salary took it from someone who made a profit. No profit, no jobs.

You know what?

All of this is completely irrelevant nonsense. It literally has nothing to do with what I’ve been arguing, and is basically just low-IQ boilerplate rah-rah for the proles.

I want American workers to be employed in American jobs, rather than foreigners being imported to take those jobs at cut rates. This applies to both illegal and legal immigration. THAT is my “competing interest.” If you don’t like that, than you should consider moving to some libertardian utopia like Sealand or Rapture or something.

Jobs don't belong to "america". You want to get rid of H1Bs? Do it. Fine with me. But, jobs belong to the people that create them. If they can't or won't create them then they don't exist. If they create them in some other country, then people who live here won't benefit. That isn't boilerplate, it's reality. Government commissars can't create demand, and when they try (Obamacare), it's always a miserable failure.

If Trump is getting in bed with the same old globalist corporatist klan and will flood us with H-1B visas then I will leave it to others to reelect him. I wish him and you all the best.
