21 states, DC sue Trump administration over rules cutting Planned Parenthood funding

Twenty-one states and the District of Columbia are suing the Trump administration over new rules that would cut federal funding from Planned Parenthood and other clinics that provide or discuss abortions.

California Attorney General Xavier Becerra, a Democrat, announced his decision on Monday to sue separately in a press conference and a coalition of 19 other states and the District of Columbia prepared to file their own suit Tuesday.

The rule in dispute applies to a $286 million-a-year grant, known as Title X, that pays for birth control, testing of sexually transmitted diseases, and cancer screenings for 4 million low-income people.

The Trump administration's change to the rule requires the "physical and financial" separation of family planning services and abortion. It would also block providers from referring for abortions for the purpose of family planning or promoting the practice if they are receiving Title X grants. Critics have often referred to it as a "gag rule."

Clinics will either have to comply with the rules or forgo federal funding. The policy takes aim at Planned Parenthood, which receives between $50 million and $60 million a year in Title X grants, and attempts to distribute the federal dollars to community health centers instead.

The lawsuits ask for an injunction of the rules, which are otherwise set to take effect in 60 days. Clinics would have a year to comply with the building requirements.

California filed its lawsuit in the U.S. District Court in San Francisco and coalition will file in the U.S. District Court in Eugene, Ore. Organizations such as the Center for Reproductive Rights and Planned Parenthood have also said they are considering lawsuits.

The states are so addicted to the federal teat! Cut them off!

But I’m positive they will find friendly judges who will rule against the feds cutting off ANY money to the states.

Fedzilla controls everything. And it will get 1000X worse if they succeed with their illegal effort to defeat the Electoral College system.

Until now, there has existed a strange silence on the subject of Democrat Party's absolute insistence on promoting the "destroying" of human life in the womb.

On the underlying question moral question discussed here, nothing addresses it better than the simple logic of this quotation from Mother Teresa, who, at the National Prayer Breakfast in Washington, DC on February 3, 1994, as cited above, stated: "And if we accept that a mother can kill even her own child, how can we tell other people not to kill one another?"

Mother Teresa's declaration may be the most powerful statement in 2020 from which to begin discussions of where a candidate stands on all the questions of life and liberty.

In America, our constitutional protections rest on the Founders' premise that each and all individuals are "endowed by their Creator" with the unalienable right to both life and the liberty to enjoy it, or, in their words, "the pursuit of happiness."

The sole reason these rights were deemed unalienable is that both are derived from the Creator--not from the mother or father, and not from government or judicial decision. What is "granted" by human decision also can, by implication, be withheld.

"The God who gave us life, gave us liberty at the same time: the hand of force may destroy, but cannot disjoin them (life and liberty)," said Thomas Jefferson.

"The world is different now. . . and yet the same revolutionary beliefs for which our forefathers fought are still at issue around the globe--the belief that the rights of man come not from the generosity of the state but from the hand of God." - John F. Kennedy, Inaugural Address

That understanding underlies every other consideration embodied in our Declaration of Independence and every protection of our Constitution. It is the very basis of our rights to life and liberty, of laws to protect them, and it distinguishes ours from other forms of government.

When we fail to acknowledge that foundation of our liberty, then we risk liberty itself for future generations, for where does the right to choose who lives and who does not really end?

That is why the question is of vital importance in each election. Already, we have deprived millions of their Creator-endowed rights to life and liberty, and our nation must be weaker for their loss. We need leaders who understand the implications and potential consequences of departing from our founding principles.

In recent decades, technological advances have enabled us to observe the characteristics and actions of God's tiniest creations in the womb. Unlike previous generations who could not see, we have no excuse for imagining that these are mere blobs of tissue labeled "fetuses." In their early weeks, we now can see that they are living babies who will continue on to possess life and liberty if we do not "destroy" both. Indeed, they are simply smaller versions of ourselves.

Questions on the economy, taxes, threats from terrorists, health care--all are considerations at this election time. One, however, may be basic to all others. Who will best protect the underlying premise of our Constitution--and the lives and liberties of millions yet unborn?

Promises are illusive and cheap. One fact is indisputable, however: Hillary Clinton is committed to the Far Left's agenda on this matter, and that agenda is not compatible with our Constitution's premise.

Since when is government funding a fundamental right of an organization receiving government hand outs?

It abortion is so supported by the masses, then fund raise. It shouldn’t be so hard to raise all the money they want to kill babies, now should it?

I have never figured out how they got federal funding in the first place. I have looked but haven’t found anything. Perhaps someone can help lighten me. Thanks in advance.

My first op-ed piece for our college newspaper, it was about abortion and how it was destroying the value of all human life's sanctity. And I used that quote by Mother Teresa

The paper was published on Thursday. By the end of the weekend five death threats had come in: the first in the paper's history.

The week after publication a girl came into my face and told me "You dirty pro-life fucking piece of shit."

Well, at least a few people read it. Not bad for first time out the gate!

If that group can donate to the dems, they do not need tax money.

Planned Parenthood (organization) is increasingly acting like, and being treated like, a de facto department of government. (My observation.)

Could it be that Planned Parenthood will become the federal agency for eugenics? (My question.)

Dear Silly States: The US Government is not in the abortion business. However, as a state, you can be if you want to accept that moral stain. Just convince your citizens to pony up the money to commit generational genocide and do your thing instead of throwing guilt trips around and pulling legal temper tantrums expecting daddy goldbucks to pay the bill and shoulder the cross with you. Even if all the states wanted funding for Planned Parenthood to murder unborn children, it remains the states have never expressly constitutionally authorized the corrupt, post-17th Amendment ratification Congress to tax and spend for such a heinous purpose.

And 21 states is certainly not enough to change the Constitution.

In other words, as a consequence of constitutionally low-information patriot voters not being on their guard, Democratic and RINO career lawmakers stay in power by winning votes with the promise of funding the murder of unborn children with unconstitutional taxes.

I believe SCOTUS has already addressed this question before...if you take Federal grant dollars, you must accept all the rules which the Federal government places upon those grants - whatever those may be, whenever those may change!

It’s like the old saying, feel free to dance, but the music selection is always decided by the person paying the band! You don’t get to demand a fast song, when the person playing the band wants waltzes!

Planned Murder is free to go get their dance on...with someone else’s money!!

Lots of states are suing the Trump administration for Planned Parenthood funding, for the national emergency, and more. How much state tax money are they wasting? I live in Nevada and object.
