Maryland’s House Bill 786 “would regulate shotguns and hunting rifles similarly to handguns.” It would do this by creating a license for long gun ownership and requiring universal background checks on long gun sales/purchases.

Sounds like a few states will be having an issue with sheriffs not expending much effort to arrest law abiding citizens.

The Second Amendment is in the Constitution as the second of our NATION’S Bill of Rights. Therefore, it’s long past time for Federal Preemption of all state laws regarding firearms. In similar fashion to how States presently “enjoin” local entities from passing gun laws, so now should the Federal Government preempt the States. And yeah I know that people who currently live in “relatively free states” as regards gun control will come out here and pi$$ and moan that such a move would “take away their sovereignty,” but even in their states, they cannot guarantee that a RAT invasion in the not too distant future could remove their Second Amendment “freedoms” with the stroke of a pen. And along with Federal Preemption, should come an iron-clad ruling from the SCOTUS that the new law “is Constitutional and the Law of the Land” as settled law.

Will the RINO governor sign such a bill and would the legislature be able to override it?

The dirty secret is that Sheriff’s have ALWAYS decided what laws they would enforce and what ones they wouldn’t. I had the local sheriff tell me way back when the government banned those with misdemeanor convictions for domestic violence from owning guns that he would never enforce that law in his county, because, as he stated, “Some dude getting in a shouting match with the old lady is no reason to lose his 2nd amendment rights.”

We have the same issue here in Washington state.

Sheriffs in the western part of the state have refused to enforce a recently passed Gun-Grab initiative.

From memory, the initiative actually got more than 60% of the vote, which is even more disturbing than the new law itself.

The Sheriffs say the state initiative is unconstitutional.

Our hard left governor, Jay Inslee, who just declared for the 2020 Democrat presidential race, is taking a really hard line against the Sheriff's, so I don't know how long they can hold out.

And for those who have not heard - the centerpiece of Inslee’s presidential bid is Global Warming and the Environment.

Washington State - 20 Sheriffs - "We will not comply"

Boulder, CO - Citizens are non-complying by the thousands.

And now this brave MD Sheriff.

Will the left get the message?

Let's hope NOT!

Then they will pay the price in the 2020 elections.

"I’m going to stand up for what I think is unjust and unconstitutional to the American people, including those living in the state in Maryland.”
He added, “We’re gonna let them know that we are sick and tired of being penalized for Baltimore City’s inability to control crime. If these bills pass, we will not comply.”

I'm of the opinion that he who takes an oath to defend the constitution and violates that oath needs to face serious consequences..

The political tables have completely turned around.

The left wants more strong-armed control, the right wants more Liberal governance.

The left is pro-CIA, pro-FBI and even CNN hired the ex-CIA director, who is trained in the dark arts of deception, and puts him on the air like what is says is the gospel truth; the right wants these agencies investigated for corruption and calls for an end to J. Edgar Hoover types of political targeting across all agencies (IRS, CIA, FBI etc).

During Vietnam the left stood as conscientious objectors.
Today, more and more LEOs are coming out as conscientious objectors to unlawful orders given from on high.

In California the state DOJ has a list of LEOs with a combined 10,000+ criminal convictions but the lefty state AG Bercerra threatens to jail anyone who publishes this information; meanwhile the NYT was free to print the Pentagon Papers.

You name the topic it is likely that left and right have turned the table around.

Ok, I’m going to say this:

It’s not okay to not agree to enforce the law, whether it is constitutional or not.

Why?

Because we are a nation of laws.

This applies to everyone. You can’t, as a legislature, because you have one party rule in your state, PASS LAWS THAT ARE UNCONSTITUTIONAL.

Chambers are doing that. As a result, LEO’s are pushing back. Governors of blue states are flouting federal law, then they expect the average citizen to abide by the laws their chambers pass that the people don’t agree with.

It is now out of control. Everybody in this is wrong.

Part of this has to do with the idiotic 60 vote filibuster rule too. Make it simple majority and move on.

This is getting out of hand.

***with a long gun licensing and confiscation law. ***

I still remember 1962, when Thomas J. Dodd and Emauel Cellar introduced a handgun registration scheme with the words..

“WE don’t want to take your guns away. We ONLY want to register handguns. Long guns will not be affected.”
