...and actually my understanding of this is from an article that I read over 25 years ago discussing “opportunity cost” and why if guns are more expensive and harder to obtain, then the ratio of those who know they are going to use the gun that they obtain (i.e., bank robbers) versus those who don’t see a direct use their gun (i.e., people buying for self-defense) increases, making society less safe, and this is why gun control doesn’t work.

I’m TRYING to make the slippery slope argument because polling shows that even most gun owners in the country support “Common Sense Gun Safety Measures”.

Nonsense. You've fallen for a dirty trick and you expect patriots to do the same. Or maybe you're just a cunning deep state minion who's been working for years to demoralize decent Americans on this board.

The "polling" you speak of is a complete and utter fabrication of the godless, gun grabbing left. If it were true, Americans wouldn't still be buying guns and ammo in record numbers. Those numbers went through the roof under Obama, and have only slightly decreased under Trump.

Americans are exercising "common sense gun control", alright. Just not the kind you and the left want to see.

So, you've been at this that long, eh? Maybe you need some reading material much older than that. Try reading what the Framers had to say about this subject.

Funny how you seem to be the ONLY PERSON on this forum with that opinion of me.

Makes me wonder about you...

Your post #10 on this thread is one of the most demoralizing statements I’ve ever read on this site.

You all but told the members of Free Republic that their guns are actually a liability, and that, in time, the Democrats will take them, whether we like it or not.

Even worse, you imply that we’ll willingly give them up, instead of using them for their intended purpose.

Go ahead. Go back and read it. It is exactly the sort of message that an agent of the deep state would pen. The sum total of that screed is, “Resistance is futile.”

You can’t put the toothpaste back in the tube. You said it, and even defended it. Now you complain, because I read it for what it was, and called you out on it.

Words such as those, would have been considered Loyalist talk in the 1770s. Yet you sit here amongst patriots, showing not the slightest bit of shame for having said them.

You’re obviously one of the doom and gloomers JimRob mentioned in his mission statement on the FR main page. He vowed in that statement not to allow such demoralizing talk on this forum, but he can’t be everywhere at once. I can only hope that he reads you the riot act, should he see what you’ve written.

Jim, have you seen this?

It’s exactly the sort of demoralizing doom and gloom you vowed you’d never allow on Free Republic.

Jim,

Not sure what the big deal is here. I’m responding to another post and simply lay out the Democrat strategy on gun control so that people here can be aware of it, and respond appropriately, and not be fooled by the sweet talk from them.

As you can see from the other replies to me, people here do understand what I posted and why.

So now you're an innocent, simply warning his fellow freeps about the plans of those dastardly Democrats. Geez....

Bob, you know good and well that you slapped down another poster who said we'd refuse to comply with an unconstitutional gun grab. In short, you told him we'd do no such thing, and that we'd willingly give up our guns to fedzilla when they come knocking.

Not just that, but you went into great detail explaining why we'd give up our guns, why few would resist, and even why we'd support disarmament in the end.

It's a despicable screed, and it's right here on this thread for anyone to read.

Sorry you’re dragged into this Jim, but I do have to respond here. What I did say is that much, if not most, gun owners, will not make a final stand and hold out against ever-tightening gun-grabbing laws should Democrats be able to get those laws into place. Sure, there will always be people who hold out until the end, even if it means violence. But not most of the country, and not nearly enough for gun owners to ever wield the political power that we have today.

I’ll just repeat what I wrote earlier: As the laws tighten (meaning the cost of ownership rises, along with the risks of ownership), less and less people will hang on to their guns, and less and less new people will even attempt to obtain guns. With that, less and less political power - until you have the Democrat dream of a ‘final solution’, which would be the Australia-type gun confiscation.

Obviously I don’t speak for individuals, including Windflier, or anyone else on this forum. They may well hold out until the end, and maybe with good reason. But I am comfortable speaking for most present-day gun owners in saying that they are law-abiding and most will not risk becoming a felon and having their lives, and that of their families, turned upside down because they hang on to their guns and somehow get caught doing it. They’ll instead take other measures (walls around their homes, security systems, secure door locks, bars over their windows, guarded neighborhoods) as is done in virtually every high-crime area in the world (with Argentina being a perfect example).

I think it's disgusting that you have such a low opinion of American patriots, but you went a lot further than simply expressing your dark view of us. No, you went to great lengths to convince poster SleeperCatcher that all is lost, and that he WILL turn over his weapons when the feds come knocking.

You dishonor us, and speak with the tongue of our enemies. Radical leftists would applaud your efforts to demoralize us, if they read your words. To the degree you've personally surrendered, you've taken on their colors, and are acting as their agent, but you don't even see it.

Surrender if you must, but stop trying to drag better men down to your level.

I give up on you. If you want Civil War 2, so be it. I prefer EDUCATING PEOPLE so they vote in a way (i.e., conservative) that prevents Civil War 2.

I guess we just see things different.

If you want Civil War 2, so be it.

Now you're putting words in my mouth. I never even implied that any of us want that outcome. My position has always been, 'Don't start none, there won't be none.' Coming for our guns will be a defacto declaration of war against the people.

And you suggest we'll respond by surrendering our arms. What an insult.

I prefer EDUCATING PEOPLE so they vote in a way (i.e., conservative) that prevents Civil War 2.

Go back and read your post #10. You were doing nothing of the sort. Education? That wasn't education - it was a warning to everyone that resistance is futile, and that Big Brother will disarm us all in the end.

It's a lousy, defeatist message, Bob.
