The game plan of the Left hasn't changed in over a century: get control of the state and use state resources to destroy their enemies. Clinton's and 0bama's corruption of federal intelligence and law enforcement organs is a case in point and an indication of how close to the brink the country really is.
One fundamental problem is that control of media and academia has given the Left a very mistaken impression that victory is at hand, that they are now in a position to demand a "discussion" in which they are always correct and no one else has the right to speak. That's the sort of thing that tends to start fights that nobody can stop.

There is a long and grand history of miscalculations causing long and horrific suffering.
The Left has to get control of the State because society itself is swayed by common sense and rational thinking and those influences make it difficult for socialism/collectivism/communism to gain the influence needed to dominate.
Socialism/collectivism/communism must ultimately be forced at the barrel of a gun.
