Coast Guard Officer Accused of Terrorist Plot Targeting Media, Lawmakers

A Coast Guard lieutenant assigned to the service's headquarters in Washington, D.C., has been arrested on drug and gun possession charges, and is accused of plans to "murder innocent civilians on a scale rarely seen in this country," according to documents filed in Maryland District Court.

Lt. Christopher Paul Hasson, an acquisitions officer for the National Security Cutter Acquisition Program, was arrested Feb. 15 and charged with possession of a firearm and ammunition by an unlawful user or addict of controlled substances, and possession of Tramadol, a Schedule IV pain medication.

A motion for detention pending trial, filed by U.S. Attorney Robert K. Hur, paints a much more menacing portrait of Hasson's crimes and planned crimes.

"The current charges, however, are the proverbial tip of the iceberg," Hur wrote. "The defendant is a domestic terrorist, bent on committing acts dangerous to human life that are intended to affect government conduct."

Hur cited a draft email written by Hasson in June 2017 in which he said he was "dreaming of a way to kill almost every last person on the earth" using a "Spanish flu, botulism, anthrax" or some other mass toxin.

Another draft letter to a "known American neo-Nazi leader" identified Hasson as a white nationalist looking for an opportunity for "a little focused violence" to establish racial supremacy.

When Hasson was arrested in Silver Spring, Maryland, earlier this month, the document states, law enforcement agents found 15 firearms, including shotguns, rifles and handguns, and "conservatively, over 1,000 rounds of mixed ammunition."

A list of potential targets allegedly compiled by Hasson in January included "prominent Democratic congressional leaders, activists, political organizations, and MSNBC and CNN media personalities" including TV host Chris Hayes; House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-California; Sen. Tim Kaine, D-Virginia; Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, D-New York; and many others.

I can’t imagine what headlines there would be if I were to be arrested. I’m not a nutcase but this guy is a piker compared to some of my friends and relatives.

Having read up on his background a wee bit, at 49, and making LT at age 46, he was Warrant Officer to LT promotion. They had plenty of time to vet him going from enlisted to Warrant. At least three full FBI background checks on him. Although, I guess that might be suspect considering Hillary and Frenchy Kerry were both cleared for “Top Secret”. I am not sympathetic with stupid, but this smacks of a diversion from all of the lefts recent “Bravo Sierra”.

Looks like they combed through the Lt’s computer to find a couple of drafts of stuff he did not send.

I do not see much there, but there might be more.

With the fake news what it is, let’s wait for all the facts to come out. Like who has faith in the feds and the news media?

Especially the FBI and its parent agency, the DOJ. After all, it’s the Fearless Fosdicks of the FBI who concluded the Steve Scalise shooting wasn’t terrorism regardless of massive evidence to the contrary. The DOJ creeps are the ones who hatched the Fast and Furious mass murder plot.

I could never figure out why Randy Weaver delivered an actual sawed-off shotgun to an entrapment scheme... Rather than a pack-o-hacksaw blades. But as posted above, irrational people do irrational things because they are irrational. And I guess there is just no figuring out why... ever

Weaver said the shotgun he delivered was lawful.

He won a settlement against the government, and was never convicted of the shotgun charge.

The Coast Guard is extremely selective and I don’t know how a guy like this got past them?

People change. Some implode off the deep end. That's the typical progression of mental illness or unchecked anger induced psychosis. You can be fine one time and a few months later nobody can recognize you. My personal belief? - He's gone nutz and he needs a treatment center for a long time.

I didn’t know that gun collecting was illegal yet in this the formerly land of the free. I know they are working on it,

It has been 20 years since I wore a CG uniform (reservist), but the Coast Guard was highly PC even then. Just how does a white nationalist move from W.O. to Lt., and not get rooted out during all the sensitivity sessions, diversity training etc.?

Something may be fishy here.

Notice how gleeful NBC News was tonight, of was it my imagination?

“Funny how the Fed’s just happen to have these cases to announce whenever the dirty FBI is getting covered in the news.”

Nice they have time to go after a railroad track coastie while the Ethel Rosenburg of our time...Hillary Clinton...merrily skates along.

Because the the FBI has agent provacateurs lucking online and egging these nuts on when they find them. Where I live they had a you man convince he was going to blow up a Christmas tree lighting with a phone calm amd got him to do it twice. I am also convince that the mail bomber with the stickers on his van was tge product of one of these operations.

A @gwupoe scoop: A LT in the US Coast Guard was arrested this week for drug and gun charges. It looked like a run of the mill case until the detention memo filed yesterday. He had a hit list, contacts with white supremacists, guns, and, again, was an Coastie assigned to HQ...ETC...

Seamus Hughes: Thanks to the @FBIBaltimore office for working the case and the arrest. Arraignment is schedule for tomorrow in Greenbelt. Always troll the MJ court filings folks. Always.

Didn’t we just go through this rush to judgement with the Smollett incident? The initial burst of headlines is almost always not only wrong but inverse to the truth.
