Why California’s bullet train should not stall (forget the billion$ - go green)
San Diego Union-Tribune ^ | 2/15/19 | ROBERT CRUICKSHANK

Posted on 02/19/2019 5:42:19 PM PST by Libloather

**SNIP**

Perhaps the biggest blow to the high-speed rail project came in 2010, when Republicans won control of the U.S. House of Representatives.

They proceeded to block any further federal funding for high-speed rail, undermining the California project’s financial plan. Ironically, Gov. Newsom’s decision to pause high-speed rail comes just as Democrats have retaken the majority in the House, making possible a Green New Deal and billions in high-speed rail funding.

California ought to show the country how to overcome these obstacles. If we believe climate change is real, then we are obligated to do something about it, and not let cost concerns or bureaucratic issues become a justification for giving up and going home while the state and the planet burn.

"Say Cruickshank, just how much will tickets cost to ride on the bullet?"

If you have to ask you can't afford tickets and if you can't afford tickets they don't want you cluttering up their ride.

Okay, here's your list...

Building a passenger train will do ZERO for the environment because nobody will use it.

Mr Cruickshank is spitting in the wind. CA’s high-speed rail is dead. No amount of op-ed pieces is going to change that fact.

They love trains because they were invented in the 1830s.
They hate walls because the Chinese invented a big one to keep invaders out in 800 BC.

Got it?

It's like the Lost Generation bitching about how the US wasn't cosmopolitan like Europe. Trains are just so European that they must have them.

The first leg, the desert leg, won’t be done until 2023 if ever. The Pelosis’ have sucked all the money they can out of this disaster, so let’s move on. You will never build the SF to LA leg, the cost to buy the land will bankrupt the 50 States. Oh did I mention, CA is broke.

Oh c’mon, you people have no vision.
When CA soon breaks in half and floats out into the Pacific; Bakersfield and Merced will become the new LA SF.
and

And then there can be the channel to West California! Everybody wins !!

Thanks for this. I don’t bother with the local SoCal papers anymore and I would have missed this gem. Best bit of the day. My face hurts from laughing.

If it was completed, how long would it take and how much would it cost to get from LA to Frisco?

Why is it that the libs so love about trains?

Because they believe they are demigods that can wave their magic wand and bestow goodness on us mere mortals.

Just as I keep hitting Leftists with:
Have they personally given up fossil fuels? It’s doable. They haven’t. They’re hypocrites.

I’ve done more about climate change than most concerned about it. Run home & office partly on solar, had an EV. Delightful as hobby, motivating for self-sufficiency, also familiar with the limits - which snowflakes won’t seriously live with.
