The Democratic governor of New Mexico ordered a partial withdrawal of the state’s National Guard troops from the U.S.-Mexico border while also taking a shot at President Trump.
Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham, a Democrat, made the announcement a few hours before Trump delivered his State of the Union address in which he renewed his call for a wall along the southern border.
"New Mexico will not take part in the president’s charade of border fear-mongering by misusing our diligent National Guard troops," Lujan Grisham said in a statement Tuesday.
National Guard troops were deployed to the border in April 2018 and 118 remained there before Lujan Grisham’s announcement. The governor has also directed Arkansas, Kansas, Kentucky, New Hampshire, South Carolina, and Wisconsin to pull out their troops.
She said some troops will remain in the southwestern part of the state to address humanitarian needs.
“I recognize and appreciate the legitimate concerns of residents and officials in southwestern New Mexico, particularly Hidalgo County, who have asked for our assistance, as migrants and asylum-seekers continue to appear at their doorstep,” she said.
The withdrawal follows the Pentagon’s announcement Sunday that it would send an additional 3,750 troops to the border.

New Mexico can not prevent our troops from protecting our country, THAT IS the sole purpose of our military to PROTECT the country as a whole!!! New Mexico let’s these criminals in they are NOT confined to just New Mexico they are free to cross state lines!!! Build a damn wall around ALL of New Mexico let them deal with their own citizens and the lawless invading criminals!!!

And you would be guessing very wrong. Dems won every statewide election in 2018. They went for Hillary about as heavily as Texas went for Trump.
The “nil” chance is ever seeing a republican congressman or governor again.

Next time New Mexico NEEDS National Guard troops for ANYTHING it should be declined!!! I don’t think a state has any right to demand US MILITARY, Marines, Army, ect. withdraw from protecting the country, National Guard might be different, not sure!!!

No state has authority over US government troops. National Guard troops have two levels of authority over them...the lowest level is the state governor and the highest is the President of the US. If the National Guard was called into service by the President, the governor does not have the authority to over-ride or reverse the call-up.The President does, however, have the authority to over-ride a governor’s call-up. THAT question which authority rules was settled back in the 1950’s in Little Rock, Arkansas.
Even the lib ABQ Journal supports a barrier in the “boot heel” portion of the border in SW New Mexico. Literally hundreds pour across the border daily there and surrender to Border Patrol agents.
In the past four months, more than 26 groups of 100 people or more,have turned themselves in to agents at Antelope Wells, according to the Border Patrol. That’s on her watch but she says she doesn’t see a crisis.
What she’s going to do is allow for safe “passage” thru the areas of choice in order to allow Illegals claiming Asylum right on through there. She believes they have a right to this.
