Someone tell Muellhead.
Sadly much of FR has been overrun with Putinists. So they are not sympathetic to the truth in any form. Thought this would change when Trump ascended to power. But it hasn’t.
Trump interfering with Russian Elections?.............
Putin is smart, but he is no friend of freedom.
He is never to be trusted about anything, except to act in his and Russia’s own interest. He has chosen some horrible countries and people to associate with.
Never trust X KGB.
Note: I don’t think Russia chose to engage the US in battle.
I think the Wagner group acted at the direction of Iranian forces (probably Quds) or possibly (unlikely) by direction of Assad. Every case I’ve seen where US actually hit Syrian military forces, it was at the direction of Iranian elements.
Neither Putin or Trump want to have a direct conflict. But our military will retaliate if fired upon. No questions asked.
don't like debate, do you?
You are one of those who want US soldiers engaged and fighting in every corner of the globe. Tell me, exactly what were the actual goals of Obama/McCain's regime change gambit in Syria? And what have been the unintended consequences when those didn't quite turn out as expected?
I am like 90% sure the clash was about a private or corporate oil interest and has nothing to do with the Russian government. The only thing linking Wagner to the real military is they are mostly veterans but most of them had a history of bad conduct ending with dishonorable discharge or even conviction. That is how they end up in such groups.
Obama’s goal in Syria (as in the rest of the middle east during the ‘arab spring’) was to take out Assad and install the muslim brotherhood.
Russians aren’t conscripted for life. So I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt on their character and conduct. Besides, those types are usually quite adverse to military service so would likely avoid it after getting out.
They were private Russian contractors advancing on a US base securing nearby oil facilities. It was likely done with a wink and nod from Gazprom, directed from Russia.
They knew they were advancing on a US base and were warned repeatedly. They died due to greed and callous miscalculation.
Who do you think are military contractors? Most of them former military and they are out of military and into contractors because it pays more and there are also different standard on discipline. Also military would never take a man with a criminal record which is not an issue for a private contractor.
Your prior post indicated the Russian contractors were prior Russian military who had behavior and conduct issues while in the Russian military. I pointed out that is illogical and possibly irrational.
Besides the fact those types are the least likely to return to military employment it is standard contracting procedure to require discharge papers and service records when applying for such work. The contracting company has no requirement to employ them and will not accept the bad conduct types.
You’re right again..
Putin puffers will be along soon
.
Different contractors has different standards actually.
One thing overlooked is private military is highly illegal in Russia. Wagner is registered on British Virgin Islands if I am not mistaking. Every their employee is by default a felon by the very fact of participating in the group. That is why it mostly attracts people who are already felons.
In Russia, crime find YOU.
Never thought Ivan wanted to engage US directly. But Wagner did business with Assad and with the Iranian elements. Hence, I think the Iranian elements of the SAA, probably Quds decided they would pay the Wagner group to grab the oil field/refinery.
We saw the results, Wagner group will be taking about the results among the survivors forever.
Long and short, there are a lot of evil forces in the ME. Iran and Turkey are among the worst. Assad? bad enough.
I’m with Trump, sweetie. And stand by his military decisions thusfar. Not Putin. And you? Mr. Venezuela?
That firefight was a suicide run. The Russ mercenaries telegraphed their movement days ahead of time, and the US guys had layers of resources ready.
The Donald Trump who said?
“...We should stop talking, stay out of Syria and other countries that hate us, rebuild our own country and make it strong and great again-USA!”
