Ex–Starbucks CEO Could Get Trump Re-elected
The Atlantic ^ | January 26, 2019 | Edward-Isaac Dovere

Before there was Jill Stein, there was Ralph Nader. Before there was Nader, there was Ross Perot. None won. All argued that the Republican Party and the Democratic Party were basically the same, and the only way to make real change was to ditch them both. Each was blamed for siphoning off enough votes to throw the presidential elections.

These days, the difference between the parties is starker than it’s ever been in modern times. Yet here comes Howard Schultz, a billionaire who feels that he might be the answer to American politics, and that he’d run for president as an independent.

Schultz, the former Starbucks CEO, says in a 60 Minutes interview already recorded but airing on Sunday that he is thinking very seriously about a presidential run—but he stops short of a full announcement.

He makes clear, however, that if he moves forward, he will do so as an independent.

Would Mr. Starbucks be another Ross Perot (screwing the Republicans), another Ralph Nadar (screwing the Democrats), or would he truly be an independent candidate (screwing neither or screwing them equally)?

I’ll buy a few burnt Starbucks if it helps his losing campaign.

He’ll play the Jill Stein part in 2020.

Precisely.
Perfect magnet for Dem votes that will never go the main Dem Party candidate.

And let’s get our Libertarian throwaway votes going to Trump and not the waste baskets this time. Do Libertarians really love making life easy for socialists who then win? Really? For a symbolic vote? Even 1 or 2% could change everything.

Since Trump broke the billionaire barrier, now billionaires want to be president. This guy, Tom Steyer, Michael Bloomberg....

A) Jill Stein had zero effect on the 2016 presidential elections.

B) There’s nothing that he can articulate that will draw many Republicans to him, so no matter what, this hurts Democrats.

C) The vast majority of Ross Perot & Ralph Nader voters reported they wouldn’t have bothered voting without the choice, so of course, those too had little effect on their respective elections.

D) It’s up to the candidate to attract votes; if they fail, that is a failing on them, not the fault of some other person. W could have done much to fix his problems, instead, he ran that campaign pretty much as a Democrat and took much for granted. Massive mistake.

i doubt PDJT would need any such help getting re-elected (assuming he still wants the damned job, ha!)

especially he wouldn’t need any help if the SorozNazi Dimocraps nominate any of the several awful candidates they’ve floated in their controlled mass propaganda media, ha!

but...super headline and fine and dandy, bring the idiot new guy on...smile smile smile

Actually, the Green Party will mount their normal selection, and run a candidate. So there will be the Starbucks Party, the Libertarian Party and the Green Party in the running.

All of this will help drain votes from the Democrats in states like Ohio, Michigan and Penn.

I would add this prospect...if we get down to an election debate where Harris, Trump and Howard Schultz are standing on the stage...it’s possible that half of all Democratic voters might see Schultz as the better candidate than Harris.

3rd party candidates always take away votes from the other two candidates. How much is taken away from the Republican side depends on how much the 3rd party candidate fools gullible Republicans and independents of which there are significant quantities. My initial take is this helps Trump but one cannot necessarily count on this.

I see him as an anti-swamp entry. I'm happy to see a lefty businessman join the fray. It's preferable to all the Marxist/socialists/communists that the left is teeing up.

Trump is having an effect. The incompetent political hacks that never had a job are being challenged on both sides of the divide. It's a good thing.

Sounds like he’d run on a “both parties suck” platform. He’s got a point, to an extent but it’s been done before.

He’s a retard. Single handedly destroyed the Sbucks franchise by opening the stores to homeless drug-addicts because of a situation where an employee felt his safety was at risk due to pc.

Simply put: one issue with blacks and made a white guilt apology and placed Sbucks customers more at risk..

We normally call that as “redundant”.

Yes, we do that all the time ..... and frequently, too, also.

The Left are having a collective panic attack. I saw the 60 Minutes piece and I read the Atlantic piece. The Left understand that what the Atlantic said is right. If Mr. Starbucks runs, Trump will win. 60 Minutes, the Atlantic, and the rest of the Media will go all in to stop this from happening. If they fail, the 2020 election is over.
