Alternative Path January 9, 2019 Kim du Toit Advice, Business, Guy Stuff, Men & Women
I have often ruminated that young men need to evaluate their career choices very carefully before picking the one they think will work best for them.
Increasingly, its become apparent that going to college is not a worthwhile option for them unless they want to be hounded, harassed and vilified just for the crime of being a man, that is. (10,000 instances of false accusations, man-hating professors and the courses they teach have been omitted on grounds of brevity.)
Now, weve seen in other spheres what men do when they feel that the game rules are loaded against them, or that participation leads not only to inevitable failure, but even to a compromised future. The dating game is one such activity, where men have either deliberately turned the rules of the game against women and used them to their own benefit or have simply eschewed all participation in the face of assured failure (going their own way MGTOW) and simply created a parallel life outside the game.
Im suggesting an alternative to the career game.
Dont go to college, at least until the rotten system has collapsed under the weight of its own prejudice and misogyny misandry, and been replaced with a better deal. Ignore the vested interests of people and institutions who preach the lie that you can only be successful with a college degree.
If youre super-smart and driven like Michael Dell or Bill Gates, of course, you dont need to be told this. But only a very few men, in any activity, are in that rare 0.00001% of super-achievers.
But for the vast remainder, there is an option: work in industries where the vast majority of women cant or wont participate. Im talking about the heavy, dirty and sometimes thankless jobs (Mike Rowe-type Dirty Jobs) which not only dont require a college degree, but where a college degree might even be a hindrance and not a qualifier.
Just last week I came across a guy who was an oil field worker. Hed fled from Venezuela right after that thug Hugo Chávez came to power, and in the eighteen years since had worked his way up the ladder, in oilfields all over the world. Now, at age 45, hed finally reached the point where he didnt have to work the oil rigs, just visit them and see how things were going. Along the way hed acquired a wife, two preteen kids, and a $750k house in Plano where I picked him up to take him to the airport. Hed completely lost his Hispanic accent (when he left Venezuela he couldnt speak a word of English) and was also fluent in Arabic and (ahem) German. When I asked him if he had a university degree he just laughed and said, What for?
What for, indeed.
Heres the point. I know its going to be difficult for Millennials and their successors to handle this, but working dirty jobs is hard. It requires dedication, stubbornness and of course a willingness to get ones hands dirty, and sadly, because of the education industrys indoctrination of kids, this choice is often dismissed or demeaned.
It shouldnt be. If you weigh the eventual benefits of dirty work where, by the way, your exposure to militant feminism is going to be minimal to nonexistent against a useless degree coupled with crippling debt, this should not be a difficult decision.
Is this risky? Not as much as youd think. Just the other day, our local community college broke ground on a campus which apparently is going to be dedicated almost exclusively to the hard careers automotive service and repair, construction, welding, plumbing, electrical work, manufacturing and so on but Im not going to suggest you look to such an institution for your education / training; whats important is simply to realize that for such an event to have taken place, there must be a crippling shortage of young men willing to get into those fields, and this is the Establishments attempt to address it. (Its complete bollocks, of course youd do better by getting an apprenticeship at a real place of work.)
So, in the paraphrased words of Ayn Rand, go Galt and make your own way in the world. You may not succeed, of course, but remember that failure is equally (or, in these times, more) likely with a freshly-printed college diploma clutched in your hand.
Become a watchmaker, if youre mechanically inclined. Work in construction, if youre strong in body. Get an apprenticeship in a trade, preferably an ugly, dirty and tough one where just by virtue of being a man you face no competition from women. I guarantee you, theres a tough job out there for any man if hes prepared to go for it. And if your first one (or several) choices dont work out, find another one that does.
Let women take over non-jobs like human resources, clerical jobs at the DMV, cubicle management, bank tellers or benefits administration at Global MegaCorp Inc., and laugh as the life force is drained from them.
Heres the challenge: be a man. Not todays version of male figures who argue over craft beers and fashion accessories. Im talking about real men, who do things for themselves, push aside barriers with confidence and, eventually, end up with women (like my friend Raul, above) who appreciate them for their qualities and for the security and families they can provide.
When I asked Raul if his wife worked, he looked at me in puzzlement and said, What for?
If this guy taught a class, hed create a generation of achievers. He would never do such a thing, of course, although he would (and does) train other men to succeed as he has.
Now get out there and make something of your life that does not include words like curriculum, term paper and Diversity Studies. Youll be a world better for it.
I don’t know.
Even getting a work visa here, requires a Bachelor’s degree.
He should also tell them to opt out of the marriage game. It screws over more guys and wrecks their finances and emotional lives.
The assumption is that all colleges are alike. If your career requires a degree, do the research and find a college that isn’t a morass of women’s studies and SJ-training courses. You might even find one of the few remaining men’s colleges a good option, although only undergraduate degrees seem to be their purview.
Being an auto mechanic or a plumber would have been my first choices, particularly from a personal perspective. I know a plumber who put his kids through medical school.
Sure, NOW you tell me!

They don’t need to be told to opt out of marriage; apparently someone told them already!
At this point many of the STEM fields are still safe for smart men; despite massive efforts to “diversify” them, too many women are disinterested. While women have filled offices in financial or legal fields, for example, the effort required in STEM makes it unattractive to many (hence the efforts to tilt the playing field in their favor with STEM careers, but with little success). Liberals’ rant about “gender disparity in pay” is simply about money, not effort or actual work; in my experience, retiring white guys are replaced by pairs of females, at high rates of pay and half the workload.
I wouldn’t encourage sons to go into any field where women or imported foreigners are filling offices because that is where they are most likely to face reverse discrimination; in “safe” fields for men, it is much harder for companies to screw them over. Real work needs to be done, and they can’t antagonize the real makers.
Electricians seem to do well also; it isn’t just about choosing a “male-friendly” field, but selecting one where imported foreigners couldn’t easily take the jobs. In the NYC metro area, they replaced many blue-collar white men in construction-type jobs that didn’t require specific licensing.
I just don’t understand electricity. I had a glimmer when I followed the recommendation of a guy on my block and took a book out of the children’t library called “Meet Mr. Electricity.” Not kidding. Am fine at purely mechanical stuff. Plane geometry made sense. So did inorganic chemistry. Had to work at all math and stopped after differential or integral calculus (can’t recall the last course I took—see what I mean?).
I’m nervous with electrical stuff - and plumbing if it requires shutting the main. My main concern is I can’t turn them back on (due to complications that arise), and am stuck waiting for a pro anyway...
Good to see him writing again, used to enjoy his old stuff. I thought he’d stopped doing it at all.
Truly a sad state of affairs!
How did men go from running and dominating everything to being marginalized into the fringes of society, being reviled as toxic, and having to scrape by with dirty manual jobs?
The sad truth is that we slowly but willingly surrendered the powers we had to the Gods of “fairness”, and now it is us who are being screwed. How do we regain our natural and rightful dominant position in this society?
He’s been doing this blog for a couple of years, now. Not as good as olden times, but a damn sight better than nothing, at all, to be sure. He lost his wife to cancer, and took solace in writing. He just married a sweetheart from yesteryear. Wishing Kim many happy and productive years.
It quite literally has come down to looking out for yourself while letting “them” fall flat on their ass....allowing pain to once more be nature’s way of saying “don’t do that”.

It’s ONLY in America, and English-dominant speaking Western nations. The rest of the world is quite sane.
That’s only a survival strategy. It may do in the interim, but for the long run men need to organize and go on a confident offensive to regain control and dignity. Refuse to be guilted into submission.
Seems like everyday we’re getting rolled by something new.
Thing is we would have millions of good women on our side, for most women prefer the old order.
“Its ONLY in America, and English-dominant speaking Western nations. The rest of the world is quite sane.”
Not quite. All of western Europe is infected with the disease. Germany and the Scandinavian countries are the worst.
But it’s true that most of the non western world has remained fairly immune to it.
I truly believe that whichever sizable country manages to avoid this scourge and remain grounded in reality will become the dominant country.
Im always afraid of fracturing a connection in some way that I can’t get it closed or opened. Even though I’m only a 5-foot tall woman (and probably shrinking as we speak), I invariably make things worse lol!
