I am glad the Schumer shutdown is over. I am glad federal workers will finally be paid. For weeks, Democrats held their paychecks hostage. Yesterday, I fought hard to immediately pay every single essential federal employee – every essential employee at the Coast Guard, the TSA, air traffic controllers, Border Patrol agents, ICE agents, FBI agents, and those throughout law enforcement. Chuck Schumer and the Democrats cynically objected to that legislation and killed it on the Senate floor.
The Democrats have claimed that, once the shutdown ends, they are willing to negotiate in good faith to secure the border. Given their behavior, there is considerable reason to be skeptical of their claim. But, now, we will see if they actually meant what they said.
The media will obsess over the short-term political fight. But what matters is enacting real solutions to the real problems of this country. We have a crisis at our border, one that Texas experiences first-hand. We need real border security, including physical barriers to stop drug traffickers and human traffickers. I will continue to lead the fight to secure the border and get the job done. We must keep our word to the American people.
Perhaps the Democrats will end their partisan obstruction, set aside their hatred of the president, and agree to a reasonable compromise to actually secure the border. I hope so.
If not – if Democrats continue to embrace open borders at the expense of the American people – then today’s actions have made it all but inevitable that the president will declare a national emergency and deploy the funds and manpower necessary to build a steel barrier at high-traffic locations on the border.
My statement on the shutdown:
80%+ of the federal government is unconstitutional. KEEP THE GOVERNMENT SHUT DOWN (except for the -20% constitutional part). Best thing that could ever happen to us. The Liars in the media try to spin how bad it is for us to have the government shut down. But they, of course, are liars.
Among many other things, the unconstitutional $3+ trillion portion of the feds continually drives up a relentless hidden tax: INFLATION. Keep this sucker shut down, and we will enjoy the greatest economic boom America has ever seen.
FREEDOM creates wealth (in the free market).
GOVERNMENT creates poverty (takes people’s money and drives inflation).

Good statement from Cruz. Yes, he’s a creep. Yes, he is the Zodiac killer. But he says good stuff when not running for President.
He has been great since his slip up of 2016.
It’s classic Cruz, and it could just as well have been approved by Trump. Perfect.
So Trump has NO choice he has to declare a national emergency..I GUARANTEE you in 3 weeks absolutely NOTHING is going to change..Commie Dems dont want a wall, period, end of story..they NEED open borders, they don’t want open borders they NEED open borders..to change the demographic forever and have total control, one party rule..why would they want a wall built that will end all that, of course not..so either declare the emergency or the wall is finished, it will never happen
And oh BTW, INVASION IS an emergency.

He just posted this and it’s a good model for how we all ought to be responding to support the President.
How nice of dug out Ted to emerge from under his desk. I note he says nothing about the funding promises made to POTUS by McConnell.
So I ask the question: Is Senator Root and Branch McConnell only a “liar” when Ted Cruz runs for POTUS?

Cruz has been debating on behalf of trump on the senate floor more than any other senator. He is still fighting for wall funding.
It is kind of self serving.
But I give Sen. Cruz a pass. He is the best friend and ally Trump has at the moment.

Cruz is solidly with Lindsay Grahmnesty on punting the wall issue. It’s obvious no elected Republican wants this hot potato on their plates because the big GOP donors all hate it.
I expect better of a “Constitutional conservative” like Cruz. He’s not up for 6 more years and has a free hand to do whatever he wants. Clearly, the minimum required is all he will do to support POTUS.
