President Trump said late Wednesday that he would deliver his State of the Union address after the ongoing partial government shutdown is over.
"As the Shutdown was going on, Nancy Pelosi asked me to give the State of the Union Address," Trump wrote in a tweet. "I agreed. She then changed her mind because of the Shutdown, suggesting a later date. This is her prerogative - I will do the Address when the Shutdown is over."
Trump clarified earlier statements suggesting he may do an “alternative” State of the Union, writing that he was not seeking an alternative venue because "there is no venue that can compete with the history, tradition and importance of the House Chamber."
"I look forward to giving a “great” State of the Union Address in the near future!" he added.

Sotu is one of the greatest bully pulpit opportunities the President has. It gives him the opportunity to stress his successes, and to showcase victims of illegal immigrants.

I think the SOTU was unnecessary distraction. While he could have found a great venue and did a SOTU to 75-100K people, it would be political theatre. Probably best to keep the focus on the wall funding. I am most concerned that he gets the money to build the wall—gets all of it would be even better than the $5.7B—and does not give amnesty or his this-is-not-amnesty version, which is still amnesty. That is bigger issue.
He’s already addressed the country twice on the case for the wall, and can do so again if he feels the need.
There is only one winner here, it is Trump. Relax.

The speech itself - who cares? I'd rather hear his standard stump speech and references to the corrupt media, corrupt politicians, and corrupt Hollywood stars.
I seriously doubt President Trump has lost his will to fight. Let's sit tight and see how this plays out.
Maybe he plans to call Emergency and get the military funds to build the wall n then open the government before the 29th?

hello? Trump can give any speech to the american people he wants and explain all you think he should. Sotu is primarily to report to congress the state of the union. Trump can get air time anytime he wants to address the public.
Once pelosi caves - Trump can still bully pulpit all you want and give official sotu speech too.

He can’t just barge in and push Nancy Stinklosi out of the way. Don’t worry about it. The democraps are setting precedence. Let Trump play the long game with this. Nancy is playing the short game. People will be wondering why there is no SOTU, and now we can blame it on that biatch too, as well as the shutdown. She will Soo start looking even more unnegotiable and more obstructionist in no time.
Does he REALLY expect that crazy Nancy is going to give in on ANYTHING re the wall? If he does, then he's just NUTS and hasn't managed to learn anything in these past 2 years!

What happened to McConnell? The SOTU is to Congress and Pelosi is only half of that equation unless McConnell ceded his authority to her.
