When I was at Parris Island there was a line from a cadence during runs:

"I wanna be a recon ranger...I wanna live a life of danger..."

I had always assumed that it was referring to Force Recon
Marines, but being in the Wing, I never got a chance to ask a
Recon Marine if that was the case and I never heard the term
again. Maybe that is where this clown heard it.

There were “Force Recon” Marinces, or ‘Recon Marines”, but, NEVER a “recon ranger”.

Maybe he meant to say, “Power Rangers”. They were real. ;)

There is an old running song heard here and there in the USMC that references “recon ranger”. But it isn’t commonly used anywhere else. And no, this guy was not in battalion recon or Force recon, ANGLICO, or anything else like that.

I doubt he was even an 0311.

Marines do occasionally send people to Ranger school, SF Q course, and others. But it isn’t $hitbirds. That happens when you are damn good already.

One thing that truly steams the USMC is sending someone to another services school and have them NOT be an exemplary standout. This ain’t him.
