Former Texas congressman and libertarian presidential candidate Ron Paul said Tuesday on Fox Nation's "Liberty File" that welfare incentives are drawing illegal immigrants to comes to the U.S.

*snip*

Paul noted that when he delivered babies as a doctor in Texas, many parents who were illegal immigrants "immediately" got signed up for welfare.

Ron Paul is known for having some rather kooky ideas. But he is spot on here.

And so you've got to ask yourself this. For two years (2017 and 2018), the GOP had the presidency and both houses of Congress. Why wasn't anything done about this?

Sixty votes probably were needed in the Senate - and it would be hard to get 50 with all the RINOs there.

Sure, just as freedom incentivizes people to leave prison, but that doesn’t mean you don’t lock the doors.

If you look at the numbers, Illegal crossings (actually apprehensions) were way, way, down in 2017. They didn’t start to approach their record levels until the end of last year, when the caravans started up.

You really don’t have a ready answer here? But as far as Ron Paul is concerned, he’s a worthless gadfly who used his office badly over the years he was a Congressman. And yes, we while we do need to do something about the “inducements” we offer to illegals, nothing is going to be done about them for at least the next 24 months, while we can commence, in earnest, building effective barriers along our southern border.

He has a point. As long as getting across means that illegals can get welfare and be employed, they will figure out ways to get here.

Has he ever worked with a full deck??

How long is it since he WORKED A FULL DAY? he has not been a Medical Doctor or many, many years...His skills and memory no longer operates...

My experience is that the microsecond a politician suggests the USA should maybe consider not fighting wars belonging to a certain country in the middle east, he is designated as a kook.

He's a fool and still is a fool. A physical barrier absolutely is the most important element to border security.

Why are we being barraged with failed ideas from the Pauls here?

Retire, Mr. Paul. WeThePeople want the wall and have voted into office a President who will do just that. Retire already. Your ideas are old, stale and unacceptable.

Our government is taking our money
And funding our own demise.
How is this at all acceptable?
Thanks and have a nice day.

I agree with both of you in that a wall is necessary. And Ron Paul is not saying that it’s not. What he is saying is that it is important to reduce the incentives the cause illegals to come to the US in the first place.

I like Rand Paul. But I’m no big fan of his father. As I noted previously, I think Ron Paul is a bit kooky. But he is right about the incentives problem.

Consider this. Suppose that the wall is built, but nothing is done about those incentives. What will happen the next time a Democrat takes the White House? I’m rather sure that an executive order will be issued: Install gates in the wall. Then open those gates.

This is RON Paul (83 yrs old), not his son Senator Rand Paul.

Ron Paul IS retired, but perhaps you think he should not speak on any public issues anymore??

Not only that, but welfare for able-bodied Citizens is the main reason Americans are happy with illegals “doing the jobs that Americans won’t do.”

Get rid of welfare, and that problem goes away.

Yes. Welfare guarantees invasion.

And one cannot claim to be an authentic libertarian while embracing open borders to a welfare state.
