Tahrir Al Sham (al Queda) seizes wider slices of Syria’s north

The group are wiping out rivals and taking areas of strategic interest to Turkey and Bashar Al Assad's government. Al Qaeda-linked militants in Syria are strengthening their grip on territory in western Aleppo’s rebel-held countryside, nearly 18 months after taking most of the neighbouring province of Idlib. A sudden campaign by Hayat Tahrir Al Sham last week caught Turkey and allied rebels by surprise (when they moved their forces to attack the Kurds near Manbij)... “Tahrir Al Sham chose the right moment to attack.”

Al Queda (HTS, or Hayat Tarir al Sham) has swept to control of the main remaining rebel area in Syria, while Turkish forces redeployed, preparing to attack the Kurds. Now the HTS (al Queda) control two main Highways (M4 and M5), and are amassing a fortune from "taxing" (plundering) the population.

The sweep was so rapid (one week), that some suspect that Turkey allowed (or directed) this consolidation. Why did the dog not bark? There has not been a significant Turkish counterattack.

This is the most territory/population that al Queda has controlled, since they were expelled from Afghanistan.

"Al Queda (HTS, or Hayat Tarir al Sham) has swept to control of the main remaining rebel area in Syria, while Turkish forces redeployed, preparing to attack the Kurds."

The laws of unintended consequences, it always bites you in the arse. We announce a rapid pullout of Syria, the Turks see an opportunity to wipe out an old foe and re-deploy their forces to attack the Kurds and Al Qada takes advantage of that.

All I'm saying is that if we could have gotten allies in place, be they Saudi Arabia/UAE/French coalition like it appears to be happening or something else and then withdrawn I don't think this happens. No decision made should be made in a vacuum.

This is a command and control changeover by the jihadists... with the CIA supported terrorist group turning positions, personnel and heavy weapons over to the Turkish supported one.

They're out in the desert together test firing BGM-71 TOW missiles right now.

Except the Russians are in the mix. With us gone, there will be a lot more Russians.

Yep, with Syria supporting them.

Insane comments coming from both Pompeo and Trump about Erdogan protecting our Kurd allies?

Only a pretext to taking and annexing all of N. Syria that he can.

Lots of treachery going on.

Snake pit. I’m sick to my stomach of this crap.

CIA supported terrorist group

That ended when Trump came into office. They are allied with Turkey. All Jihadi's are Jihadi's. But these are not Trump's or the CIA under Trump.

Except the Russians are in the mix.

The Russians started flying sorties against HTS convoys in Western Aleppo a few days ago.

Turkish backed HTS trying to move tanks and heavy artillery taken from Zenki over to Afrin.

If the Kurds can't figure out which side their bread is buttered on by now, they never will.

Ignorance? Self dillusion? Entrapment? Treachery?

No matter what they say, I know the true Nature of Erdogan the Islamist and his friends. Will not buy all these lies. I’m old enough to know fog of war vs BS.

I wrote too fast and had an error in my response. You may have understood anyway, knowing me.

I wrote:

“Yep, with Syria supporting them.”

Should have read:

“Yep, with Turkey supporting them.”

(Turkey is the capital of Islamist Jihadi’s for the world)

Here is what I was looking for:

Turkey rejects Trump adviser John Bolton's Syria plan, insisting it will fight Kurdish militia

https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/middle-east/syria-war-turkey-erdogan-john-bolton-trump-kurdish-military-middle-east-a8716996.html

This is what I knew was coming. It will come down to a showdown between Erdogan the Regional powers, the US and Russia. Will they let Turkey? Or will they crush his drive.

From today’s Independent (UK) article Texas Fossil linked:

“Turkey’s president rejected any protection for the Washington-allied Kurdish militia, and even refused to meet with the firebrand conservative (Bolton).

Instead, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan took to the floor of parliament in Ankara, announcing that Turkish armed forces had “mostly completed our preparations for a military offensive against” ISIS elements in Syria as per an agreement with US president Donald Trump forged last month.

“Likewise, we are determined to take our steps against terror organisations such as the PYD/YPG [Kurdish People’s Democratic Union and its allied militia and political organisation in Syria] along with Daesh [ISIS],” he said. “We will act to neutralise those terror organisations in Syria very soon.””

...Then he went on TV to give a Nationally broadcast speech, interrupted by chants of Allahu Akbar!

Whipping up passions to to go exterminate Kurds is going to solidify domestic support for Erdogan with their right wing Parties, who traditionally align more with Erdogan’s opponents, the Kemalists. Kind of a “Wag the Dog” political maneuver, to distract from a seriously bad economy.

Brennan is a traitor and needs to be held accountable for it.

She is running the CIA. And she is experienced, capable and not an idiot.

Meh...she’s a product of the Brennan led CIA, and this notion that everything changed the day Brennan left is simply not true.

At the very least Haspell is covering up Brennan’s dirt, and that’s NOT a good thing...she’s complicit.

We disagree. You have no evidence to base what you said upon. She was there long long before Brennan. I suspect she has conveyed what she knows about Obama’s tenure to current leadership. And that is why she heads the Agency.

You and I are in no position to even speculate about her effectiveness.

I have never held a security clearance, but was inspected regularly over many many year because of my father in law. Does that mean anything? It means they know about me and I know nothing about those who examined my wife and I. I do know from friends that they were interviewed.
