Likely 2020 Democratic presidential candidate Julian Castro agrees with Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez that tax rates on some of the wealthiest Americans should skyrocket.
"Oh, I can support folks at the top paying their fair share," Castro told ABC News' "This Week" on Sunday when asked directly whether he could endorse the high-profile New York Democrat's idea.
The Obama-era Housing and Urban Development secretary, who is expected to officially announce he's running for the White House this week, made the comments after Ocasio-Cortez caught flak for suggesting people earning more than $10 million could be taxed between "60 or 70 percent."
In offering support to Ocasio-Cortez, Castro provided historical context given the current highest marginal income tax bracket is 37 percent for those receiving more than $500,000 a year.
"There was a time in this country where the top marginal tax rate was over 90 percent, even during Reagan's era in the 1980s it was around 50 percent" the former mayor of San Antonio, Texas, said.
Castro also floated "that we get more serious about making sure the corporations pay their fair share," so the country can fund policy programs like "Medicare-for-All," as well as universal pre-kindergarten and higher education.

Start with Bernie Sanders, he has FOUR houses..he doens’t “need” four houses..sell three of them, sell his Porsche. Meanwhile, Id love to see the commie leftist celebrities have to give up 90 percent of their wealth, even though we all know they would be exempt..but Id laugh my ass off watching Alyssa Milano, Cher, Barbara Streisand, Kathy Griffin, Jim Carrey, and all the rest of them having to fork over the cash

These people must know the ramifications of this (loss of jobs etc) but they don’t care because it might get them elected due to the “stupidity of the American people”.
And where does the money go? Typically, not to the poor. Government funded programs that see a certain percent going back into the greedy pockets of the politicians who started them.
I don’t understand why many Americans just don’t comprehend how dangerous Democrats and their policies are. I’m so glad that Trump got elected and really exposed the Left for who they really are.

The top 10% of wage earners pay something like 85% of all personal Income tax. Is that not a fair share?

We need a 100% tax on all income above minimum wage on ALL Democrats in the USA. You want Communism, you must live like one. You may also not own property and will be assigned a gubmint hovel to live in. I’m deadly serious.

The top 10% of income earners already pay 72% of total income tax receipts. WTF do they think constitutes a "fair share"? How about the 51% who pay no taxes pay their fair share? To me, those 51% have no skin in the game, so they shouldn't be allowed to vote in Federal elections. Wonder how that would change their attitude. Indeed, how about a flat 17% income tax, no deductions for anyone, including members of Congress.
And...the scramble begins out of the CA and NY hell holes.
What do commies in Congress like No Cortex make? Something like $175,000 a year? That’s ain’t chump change, that’s a hell of a lot of money for a government taxpayer funded job in which most of them do absolutely nothing beneficial for the country or the taxpayers.. So let’s ask her to start paying 90% in taxes just as a demonstration. Let’s see how she handles taking home $312 a week which if it was up to me would be what Congress should really be paid.
