The most obvious way that cannabis fuels violence in psychotic people is through its tendency to cause paranoia. Even marijuana advocates acknowledge that the drug can cause paranoia; the risk is so obvious that users joke about it, and dispensaries advertise certain strains as less likely to do so. But for people with psychotic disorders, paranoia can fuel extreme violence. A 2007 paper in the Medical Journal of Australia looked at 88 defendants who had committed homicide during psychotic episodes. It found that most of the killers believed they were in danger from the victim, and almost two-thirds reported misusing cannabis—more than alcohol and amphetamines combined.
The link between marijuana and violence doesn’t appear limited to people with pre-existing psychosis. Researchers have studied alcohol and violence for generations, proving that alcohol is a risk factor for domestic abuse, assault and even murder. Far less work has been done on marijuana, in part because advocates have stigmatized anyone who raises the issue. Still, there are studies showing that marijuana use is a significant risk factor for violence.
A 2012 paper in the Journal of Interpersonal Violence, examining a federal survey of more than 9,000 adolescents, found that marijuana use was associated with a doubling of domestic violence in the U.S. A 2017 paper in the journal Social Psychiatry and Psychiatric Epidemiology, examining drivers of violence among 6,000 British and Chinese men, found that drug use was linked to a fivefold increase in violence, and the drug used was nearly always cannabis.
Before states legalized recreational cannabis, advocates predicted that legalization would let police focus on hardened criminals rather than on marijuana smokers and thus reduce violent crime.

Normal pot does NOT cause paranoia, by the way. My sister was a daily recreational user in HS and college... finishing with Masters degrees in chemistry and biology and a 3.9 GPA (in the days before high grades were handed out for merely attending class)... and Purdue is not exactly easy on the science majors.
Not buying it, sorry. Do you personally know any stoners? Even if it’s your no good son-in-law living in a basement, do you know any personally? Or do you just know “of them”? Not trying to convince you of anything, just curious where your opinions come from.

The point is that the government made selling illegal alcohol on a large scale unprofitable and dangerous. They had a war on illegal alcohol to enable legal taxed alcohol to have no competition.
If you want to put yourself on the fast track to mental imparement, smoke weed on a regular basis.
Thank you. I had a 4.0 from an engineering school, many years ago. Any paranoia I felt came because of the government's confused issues about drugs.

Move those goal posts - from "hurt" to "impact."
Government's only legitimate role is to act against violations of rights - and not even all "hurts" qualify, still less all "impacts".
Telling people they are free to use recreational drugs -- while at the same time telling employers they must hire and insure these people -- is an outlandish proposition by any objective measure.
Like booze and cigars, some can handle, some should not. It is what it is. No one should be told how to live.
Should the addictive drug alcohol be legal in a country that does not recognize the rights of employers to dismiss people at will, for citizens to arm themselves, and for people to earn a living without paying taxes to support malingerers and frauds?

Tommy Chong is still alive as is Paul McCartney. But Bob Marley and George Harrison are both dead from brain tumors. So I figure you have a 50/50 chances of a brain tumor. And a 50/50 chance of having a long happy life.
Impact can mean hurt. Impact might mean inconvenience too like putting in a dispensary close to a residential area. And yes the type of person smoking pot is different than alchohol.

They tried banning alcohol a few years back. It didn't work out too well...
Myself, I like the idea of being able to exercise as much freedom as possible without worrying about others imposing their will upon me.
