Mill Woods church takes a cross off the wall to welcome Muslims, Sikhs (Barf Alert)

They took the cross off the church wall.

That’s the detail that caught my attention when I heard about the Millbourne Community Life Centre, a church that reinvented itself as a neighbourhood meeting space, open to anyone, and a drop-in centre for youth in what is sometimes a rough neighbourhood.

These days, the world can seem so polarized. To see the centre take down such a significant religious symbol to ensure Muslim and Sikh neighbours feel welcome is a beautiful gesture.

The 1.8-metre (six-foot cross) came down off the outside wall in 2011, and it’s a decision that still doesn’t sit well with some older community members, said (Tim) Cook, the on-site director.

“It caused quite a kerfuffle. But I always say, we don’t worship the cross."

Now there’s more effort to welcome people into the building without expectations — not to convert more people to Christianity — because that’s what many believe it means to be Christian..

No doubt the Muslims will reciprocate the kindness.

1 Corinthians 1:18 New King James Version

18 For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.

When DIA was opening they wanted to have a nondenominational chapel for Christians, Jews and Muslims. The Muslims rejected every plan, no matter what was taken off the wall. At the end of the day it was clear the Muslims would never pray in any space shared with Christians or Jews. So, the space was divided and there is a nondenominational Christian/Jewish chapel and a Muslim chapel, or whatever they call it.

When we deny Christ before man, Jesus said He would deny us before the Father.

Two judgments in Heaven

1) The Judgment seat of Christ, and
2) The White Throne Judgment.

Terror for any soul to face the wrath of God on their lonesome.

For believers, Jesus will say “Father, I died for this one!”

I’m trying, FRiend, thanks.

Hard to keep up in these Last Days. (yes I did most of those keywords so far).

The spirit of antichrist is very busy these days.

I’m betting that they support women pastors.

It seems these Christless churches always start out sanctioning women pastors and then the rest of the world comes into their door and displaces what they used to believe.

No its not! For one it has polarised the older people in the church community - They probably only paid for the place but why should you care about their feelings /s .

The cross is foolishness (or and offense) to those who are perishing. It shouldn’t be about stopping them being offended but rather stopping them from perishing!

...but I always say, we don’t worship the cross.”

No Einstein, “we don’t worship the cross” techinically but we do worship all that it represents. The “cross” signifies the magnificent sacrifice that Christ made that all could attain everlasting life through him because of that sacrifice.

His statement is simplistic, obtuse, superficial and exhibits a core lack of understanding of being a Christian and what it entails to worship as one.

His quote....”We don’t worship the Cross.”

But you call yourself Christian? and you only share the Good News if someone asks you? Started out as a Christian Missionary.

DUH...call me way confused. Bizzare.

If you just want to be a good person—that’s wonderful, but the Christian part is confusing...

I bet not a single one said “hey, go ahead and put the Cross back” in an effort to get along.

Apparently Christ’s death means as little to these “Christians” as does his resurrection.

It doesn’t seem like they are now a church, just a meeting center not a religious organization.

It’s in Edmonton, I’m not sure if churches are tax exempt as in the states....

Anybody know ?

"...because that’s what many believe it means to be Christian".

On the other hand, Muslims believe in forced conversion. That's so much better, isn't it?

Check your freepmail. Regarding endtimes, there is much that is “out there” is either plain crazy stuff or just recycled teaching. Recycled — I don’t need to hear for the upteenth time that the Tribulation is seven years long, the Seven years begin with the covenant initiated by the AntiChrist, etc, etc. All of which I believe. But where are the hidden nuggets and overlooked gleanings?

What I like about Stephen Armstrong, the podcast teacher I mentioned in the freepmail, is that he brings up more from neglected OT passages. For instance he shows how Isaiah 63 is almost entirely end-times material. In which case Christ does not arrive initially to the rescue at the Mt. Olives but combats a contingent of the AntiChrist forces at Bozrah/Petra in Jordan, then proceeds 72 miles northward to finish the job in Jerusalem.

He contends that the believing Jewish remnant is held out in Bozrah, but there is a different group of Jewish holdouts in Jerusalem. There, the ultaothodox Jews who haven’t yet come to Christ are resting the AntiChrist. They will eventually come to faith so that all remaining Jews will be saved. As He approaches the city with bloodstained garments, the ultra orthodox come to realize their terrible mistake of the past.
