Mueller 'must be trusted' say GOP taskforce leaders in ending investigation into DOJ

Two top Republican chairmen stressed Friday that the final report from special counsel Robert Mueller "must be trusted by Americans."

In closing out their joint committee investigation into decisions made by the Justice Department, Oversight Chairman Trey Gowdy, R-S.C., and Judiciary Chairman Bob Goodlatte, R-Va., took a shot at their Democratic counterparts for playing up concerns that their probe was a campaign to undermine Mueller.

"Contrary to Democrat and media claims, there has been no effort to discredit the work of the Special Counsel," Gowdy and Goodlatte wrote in a letter to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., acting Attorney General Matthew Whitaker, and the DOJ inspector general. "Quite the opposite, whatever product is produced by the Special Counsel must be trusted by Americans and that requires asking tough but fair questions about investigative techniques both employed and not employed.”

The two retiring Republicans said their committees "have assiduously avoided interfering with any ongoing criminal, counter-intelligence, administrative, or judicial reviews of conduct engaged in 2016 or 2017."

The joint endeavor began in October 2017, looking into decisions made by the DOJ related to FBI's investigation into Hillary Clinton's email server, inquiry into Russian interference and possible collusion by the Trump campaign, and alleged surveillance abuse and bias by federal agents.

Welp... another "big" House GOP investigation (or perhaps I should say big "investigation") ends with a whimper.

I wonder how many videos of Gowdy and Goodlatte molesting children the Deep State has. This is now my go-to assumption on every betrayal, as it makes far far more sense than the face value explanations of this behavior and how dependable these betrayals are.

Gowdy quit the Congress at a very young age, and carefully supported Mueller...all in the Me too era.

That backstabber is hiding something

None.

We were warned about RINOs a half-century ago in the Goldwater book. Also, we were warned about the communists’ objective to take over both major parties in the Skousen book.

Oh lordy!! There was a time when I thought gowdy was a good guy... he’s a turncoat and I can’t stand to hear him talk since he showed who he is. He’s gone and good riddance! He’s been on the take for a long time. Fox gives him audience... some people’s brains are solid cement.

gowdy was one of those who was paid big dollars for votes... I used to keep track but don’t have the exact figures any more. But he was listed among those who could be bought and was. When they are owned by special interest, what good are they for the people out here!

We have lost our governing persons to the money they go to Washington to get... and retire rich.. all the time dumping on the citizens. Trump comes in and tries to fix the mess and the onslaught is unbelievable!! God be with our President.. he stands out strong among the thorns in the swamp... Help him clean house before time runs out!

It is understandable. I am almost to that point, except for one thing:

I think they all go to the same Marxist schools as the Democrats, and were never really conservatives.

If they are truly the complicit, controlled opposition I assume them to be, blackmail may be unnecessary.

Trey Gowdy has always given me the creeps, I was never sure why he got such conservative support. But, people are misinterpreting what he said, here:

"Quite the opposite, whatever product is produced by the Special Counsel must be trusted by Americans and that requires asking tough but fair questions about investigative techniques both employed and not employed.”

It wasn't an order or anything of the sort. He was observing that the results must be trustworthy, which is why tough questions have to be asked about it.

Gowdy's always been good at popping up and asking a few good questions. Not that anything ever comes of it when he does, but he does.

The problem with that theory is that by every measurable metric, Gowdy is a hardcore, dyed-in-the-wool conservative.

But when it comes specifically to key interests of the Deep State he is just as reliable a cover-up agent.

That says “blackmail” to me, not RINO. RINOs generally openly defy the party.

Well I “trust” Swamp Man Mueller to be totally corrupt, so I guess we are all set.

The only dilemma for the Swamp is that as long is Mueller is “investigating”, Trump is paralyzed

In case anyone is wondering why the Repub “investigations” didn’t go anywhere, committee “leadership” by the likes of Goodlatte and Gowdy are a big part of why.

Watch what Swamp payoffs these two get after they leave Congress.

Trump should have ignored Rosenstein, listened to Nunes, and declassified everything and let the chips fall where they may.

Way to go, GOP! You were spineless as usual, but you allowed the media narrative and whiners on Twitter to stop you from doing the right thing. Pathetic.

It does seem consistent with blackmail. I’ve not heard a better explanation.
